Keymaster😥 Hello there I have a fridge freezer that I’ve had for nearly three years and since last week has stopped dispensing ice and water via the front paddles. One minute it was working the next…… nothing It has never been abused as there are only two peolpe in the houshold. Ice is being manufactured though, that part works fine! There seems to be no life, 😥 no noise, just the click of the switches inside. Before I investigate and take the back off, has anyone got an idea as to what the problem might be. Has the machine got a pcb? or maybe an internal fuse/thermo cut out that just contolls that part of the machine…Your help much appreciated! Thanks in advance……..

There’s three or four pcb’s in there, none of them cheap either, I can’t see any obvious cut-outs.
I would suggest you ask an engineer to attend to make a correct diagnosis.
Let us have your postcode, there’s plenty of engineers here who should be able to help.

KeymasterDunno if this is relevant or not but Kevin was on about an IR break sensor in some of these machines as well, John or Kevin may be able to clarify that.
But I’d have to agree with Dave, it’s most likley not a DIY job and most likely a Whirlpool one. 😕

The IR sensor is only on the newer european types, easy way to tell is that the european side by sides have a digital display on the front panel and the ice bucket is in the door.
I have came across this model with a similar problem and it was the wires at the bottom of the door being worn through, worth checking.

Ok, had a quick look at the circuit for this and I think it’s unlikely to be a circuit board. Some of these machines have been fitted with an optional dispenser lock. You’ll need to check your manual (don’t have mine handy I’m afraid) to see whether yours has this and if it’s been locked.
Other than the above it’s multimeter time and fault tracing.

what you said previously was spot on it is the door cable that has been severed…..Is it expensive to replace? I think it plugs into the bottom of the door…
If it is expensive like some of these things are, I could extend them by neatly soldering new wires onto existing and heat shrinking over them to insulate them? I know they must take a bit of punishment from the door opening and closing… what would be your advice?

ParticipantLeave some slack in the wiring and solder by all means – pull the plug first though……..
