Just fitted a new drain pump to my machine, but heard some ‘jingling’ in the sump hose (from the bottom of the drum to the pump) and decided to remove it to investigate – oh dear…a ‘ball and cup’ fell out where it connects to the drum when I pulled it away.

I assume this is used to allow the drum to fill up with water, and water to drain out when appropriate ?

I’m not sure which way they go back in – can anyone advise ?

    Excuse the rudimentary diagram…

    O

At the moment I’ve put the ‘cup’ narrow-end up into the hole at the bottom of the drum, with the ball underneath it – I assumed that the ball would float up to plug the hole, allowing the drum to fill. Don’t think I am right though as I can’t see the water when the drum is supposed to be filling.

The drain hose is plumbed directly into the U-bend on the sink, so isn’t too low to cause the water to drain out of the machine.

At the end of the day though, I got 2 necklaces, a bracelet, 3 10p coins, some hair-grips and an ear ring out of the hose (the joys of living with 3 women) – not a bad haul !

All I need now is a working washing machine. Hope someone can help – thanx.

The black rubber cover goes over the white ball and pushes into the recess in the main rubber sump hose. Then the whole lot simply pushes onto the tub collar and secured with the large ‘corbin’ clip!

Due to the sites data loss of 3/12/04 some additional posts on this thread may have been lost.

We are sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused 🙁

P.S. I do recall that the hose was successfully refitted by craig_i_woods and the machine is now back into action 😀
