    I have a Hotpoint Fridge Freezer (Model FF72P) that has malfunctioned. The fridge compartment will not chill and the freezer compartment, although still frozen, is struggling to maintain its temperature. The FF is approaching 5 years old. The same (or very similar) problem occured twice during the first year and each time the circuit board was replaced free of charge in less tha 5 minutes but now it’s out of guarantee. The fan in the freezer and vents are clear so it’s not this. I don’t fancy the extortionate call out charge so can I purchase the part (or recond) and, if so, any idea how much it costs? Or any other advice gratefullt received.

    …any chance the fz door has been left ajar overnight?…if so the evapourator will be blocked with ice. Often you can tell if it is by looking at the back wall inside the fz compartment – there should be no snow/ice on there at all. If there is, the cure is turn it off at the wall for 24 hours with the fz door left open. Switch on again and away you go.
    Having said that, it is not unknown for these to have pcb faults as you’ve already found out, in which case it’s time to call the engineer!

    Its more than likely that only the thermistors are at fault which, although requiring an engineer to fit them, are not expensive parts and are certainly worth trying before fitting a pcb (which does take longer than 5 minutes).
    Post your postcode here, or use the directories section, and a local engineer may give you a price.

    Thanks for feedback so far. In reply;

    a). no the door hasn’t been left ajar, it’s definitely a fault.

    b). my post code – CV9 (Sheepy Magna, Atherstone, Warwickshire). It seemed only a 5 minute job when the engineer fitted the last replacement PCB, but then it was nearly 4 years ago!
