KeymasterHello, after some advise
My trouble free (until now) Hoover washing machine has started to make very strange grinding type noises when on fast spin. Its approx 5 years old.
Any idea what the problem could be – is it worth getting these cheap washers fixed or should I just bite the bullet and think about getting a new one. Its been a great little machine and no probs at all till now, plus it does get daily use.
The machine is still working at the moment but I am sure it will go kaput any day (Christmas eve more than likely)
Thanks!

Fluffys,
Does your machine make the noise as the drum rotates? and if so does it also make the noise when you spin the drum by hand I wonder?

The noise only seems to come on when the drum is on fast spin – rotating it by hand seems ok and its ok on the slower spin speeds. It also seems to be vibrating more than it should when on fast spin

The next stage is to give us the model number of said beast, but I must warn you that I believe from what you have said so far, that the inner drum spigot has cracked 😥 . That would lead to hearing a low frequency knocking type of noise that can also be felt as you touch the outer drum 🙁
Be very careful on this though 😯
Beyond economic repair if my diagnosis is correct by the way 😕

Thank you Martin – bad news although from the noise I did think as much
Its a Hoover SE220. If this is still an available model I would gladly buy another as its been a little belter for £250
I am a bit wary of repair men – usually one thing leads to another and before you know it you might as well have bought a new machine anyway after shelling out call out, labour, parts, cups of tea, etc etc etc

You’ve been watching too many consumer programmes fluffys 😉
The vast majority of Independant appliance repairers rely on repeat business from their customers as we don’t or can’t make large profits from single repairs as is the case with some other trades. If we annoy one customer, they will never call us back and more likely tell all their friends and family as well, not good business sense really is it ?
Dave.
