    Hi,

I have a hotpoint DWF50. Last year I had error lights come on indicating a drainage issue and followed the advice on this forum. I removed the drain pump and dislodged a piece of plastic from the pump.
All has been good until now.
Once again I have a drainage problem however this time there was nothing stopping the pump from working and there were no error lights.

I tried to run a pre wash cycle but the main pump was not working and was just giving off an odd humming noise. The dishwasher was still filling with water though. I checked the motor for the main pump and found that it had melted some of the plastic around some of the copper wires. There was arcing on one of the copper wires too. oh dear was my first thought! The next was how much would it cost me.

I have replaced the main motor at a cost of £104. After fitting the main motor I put it on a pre wash cycle to check everything was working. The main motor worked a treat and started pumping water around. After about 10 mins I found the 3rd and 4th lights come on (Eco and Fast). Concerned about this issue I turned it off and checked it out. I candled the cycle and drained the water out. I checked the drain pump, nothing was obstructing it and the propeller moved around. When I turned the power back on the humming from the main motor was back. No cycle was on just the power button turned in and the motor was humming and turning around slowly and I could feel it getting warm. I turned it off and thought I could do with some help!!!

Anyone got any ideas what has gone wrong?

Re: Hotpoint DWF50 failing to drain

when you say you drained the water out you did not say whether you bailed it out manually or the electric pump drained it
if the electric pump drained it then its ok and not faulty altough with age these type of pumps get intermittant

most likely fault is the capacitor on you main pump motor. did you fit a new one ( ie was the motor supplied with one ? )

Re: Hotpoint DWF50 failing to drain

    Hi Dave,

I had to bail out the water (well lifted the dishwasher up and put the hose in a washing up bowl)

With regard to the capacitor, I couldn’t find a main motor sold on its own so had to buy the whole motor/pump unit including attached capacitor.

Is there a way I can test the drain pump on its own?

    main motor
thats ok as long as the cap is new should be ok

    the pump
only by putting power to it directly to it. you can power it off the machine but it needs water to start so its not a good test. but if you can run the unit with the side off when it fails to drain if its the pump thats buzzing then you know its either got something stuck or it needs replacing

either way take great care its mains voltages and death can be fatal

Re: Hotpoint DWF50 failing to drain

Well I tried running it with the bottom off to see what was going on. I found that when it came to the point where the drain pump was ment to kick in it did nothing!
I have now replaced the drain pump now as well.
I have tried to run it on a cycle and it worked until it needed to drain then the same flashing error lights ((eco & fast) 4&5)! I’m getting very tired of this infernal mechine!
What can be causing the dishwasher not to drain when both pumps are new?

i would not have changed drain pump till you had acertained there was power getting to it
since the pump is new then it can be only 2 things

1 broken wire between the programmer and the pump (check bottom of door where wire come through)
    2 faulty programmer
