Spotted this on BSH site while ordering a motor.
part number 605694 described as “long” carbon brush.
must admit to only normally fitting 154740 ones to all models, with no ill effects.
Anyone know about these brushes and when they should be used?

these come in considerably cheaper than 154740 ……

They were introduced with the new series of machines with the honeycomb drum and triple dampers Mark. Every bit the same as the 154740 I guess but no doubt give extended life. I’ve yet to discover any other reason TBH.

I came across one of these motors for the first time this week. The brushes, brush holders, springs and retaining cords are all nearly 1 cm longer than on earlier motors. 154740 in these holders would lose contact with the commutator long before they had worn down. Good for business perhaps but not particularly ethical.

one thing for sure, it doesnt work at all the other way around! the long brush wont fit in the short holder-I tried.
Still cannot fathom how the long brush is cheaper than the short one though.

for the first time last week I fitted more “long” carbons than short ones. Including 2 that AN other had fitted short ones in place of the long ones, result? Cuts the connection at about 1/3 of the brush length.
