Having lived for some years with a Zanussi washer dryer that washed the clothes wonderfully, and then took 2 hours to make them a bit hot, I then moved to a place where I had separate machines.

    What a difference! Dry clothes!

I have now moved again, and I am again stuck with the same washer dryer. Argh. As I don’t have room for a separate dryer here, I am desperately hoping that I can just replace it with one that will do a good job at the drying as well as the washing! Am I being blindly optimistic about two completely different entities, or is it possible to buy a washer with a drying unit that’s fundamentally the same as a tumble dryer?

As your experience shows , washer-dryers are somewhat of a compromise to separate units. Though for the most part the modern washer-dryer should perform both tasks equally as well. The two major drawbacks are that they are only capable of drying a half load at any time and often as not crease the clothing to a point where all but towels need ironing afterwards anyway.

It could well be though that your Zanussi just isn’t performing as it should perhaps?

Ah, as I had worried 🙁 Many thanks for your help both. Am tempted to remove the oven and put a dryer in instead!

I had a Siemens IQ300 WD that dried pretty well, but the main issue was capacity. We now have a SMEG freestanding WD thats also pretty good (and has a slightly larger capacity too).

To slightly contradict the advice given in the “Buying A Washer Dryer” article, do not touch Hoover with a bargepole, I had a hellish experience with them.
