As many of you will know, I sorta keep up with tech stuff. I feel obliged to do so. 😉

Yesterday in LA Microsoft announced their new tablet or slate which they’ve dubbed “Surface”, a monicker stolen from their previous collaboration with Samsung and others to deliver a PC as a table basically. You’d have seen it on various TV shows like NCIS, Hawaii Five-O and so on… product placement, gotta love it.

Anyway, the new Surface tabs actually might be a better bet for some that iOS based tablets, a la the iPad as it runs (or initial reports indicate it does) a full blown Windows 8 OS.

That means, all your IE stuff will work. In theory.

Until I get my grubby paws on one I can’t say for sure but it might be a reasonable device for field service.

You can find out more here:

I’m not going to go into the whole enchilada about why, just accept that it may well be a good bet for many, especially those that can’t ween themselves off their MS habits.

For us, it’s just another platform and one that *MIGHT* become important to many.

It won’t be available for at least another three months (according to reports) and probably won’t be all that cheap either but all that’s still to be confirmed.

As an Apple fan in recent years it pains me to say it but, MS may have actually finally gotten something right in the mobile space. But, I won’t be giving up my iPad anytime soon I can assure you as I still believe it will turn out to be superior in the format.

The initial reports on ZDnet are rather disparaging to say the least. Apparently there are two models that have different hardware. The idea of a keypad on the inside of the magnetic cover sounds cool though.

I just got my Dell XPS12 convertible laptop, you flip the screen over and it becomes a touch pad, absolutely brilliant and it runs my service system which is MS SQL based no problem, best of both worlds laptop and touch pad !
