Ancient Zanussi WD1015M, the cold water solenoid isn’t operating, checked for voltage across the terminals and no supply, I’ve traced the wires back, one is connected to the timer/programmer, the other to the dryer timer terminal block, I’ve got no voltage across these terminals either.
Can I assume there’s a level probe or pressure switch somewhere that isn’t operating that’s inhibiting the supply voltage to the solenoid or is it more technical than that?
As an aside, I connected the wires from the soap tray solenoid to the cold water one, the solenoid operated but the drum filling was painfully slow (10 minutes?) so disconnected the fill hose and blew through it, no difference.
Any suggestions please, I’m on the rock n roll at the mo’ so can’t afford to replace.
cheers
Max

Firstly, are you referring to the valve that goes to the dryer?
Secondly, I don’t recognise the model number, could you double check, better still tell us the PNC number on the serial plate?June 21, 2012 at 9:23 am #376894tedwards101

That one is a 1980s integrated washer dryer made before the current PNC numbers came in. Its code is C80678 and the product number is UK0001907. Enter it into the Zanussi shop or Procorner and you’ll find the parts diagrams. I have the technical stats sheet somewhere in my collection too.

God heavens yes I remember these old beasts. They’ve got the 3 dryer elements between the tub and drum. Parts list long since obsolete, only drawing is of the cabinet parts. But the good news, is I do possess a wiring diagram covered in coffee stains and cobwebs.
Lets see if we can raise this from the dead or arrange a good send off back to Planet Zanussi. 😛

I can convert the old 6 digit Zanussi part numbers into 11 digit Electrolux part numbers. Sometimes they are still available. For example the Dryer heater element part no. 099495 becomes 50099495009 and is still available.
Parts diagram for the WD1015M here by the way: http://procornerpdf.electrolux.com/stat … 10/099.PDF
I won’t post the link to the technical info because I don’t want to break forum rules!

Brilliant chaps, now we’ve got a positive I.D. has anyone got a potential diagnosis?
BTW, to answer Martins Question, the solenoid I’m talking about is the main cold water feed into the drum, it isn’t getting a supply voltage from the programmer/timer switch (I think) which means no cold water wash or rinse cycle as the only cold feed in that’s working is the one through the detergent tray, I’ve proved the solenoid itself hasn’t blown by swapping wires around from either of the other 2 (hot water or detergent tray) and it definitely magnetizes, just no electrickery getting to it when wired normally.
thanks all

OK, the machine has 2 valves, one single hot and a double cold. One side of the double cold valve goes to the dispenser tray alongside the hot valve. The other side of the cold valve goes to the dryer condenser.
What is confusing here is you say the cold valve to the tray works but yet it doesn’t fill, is that the story? The dryer half of the double valve is only energised on the dryer cycle anyway.

Ahhh, alittle light has just gone on in my head, are you saying that the drum only ever fills through the soap dispenser and the 2nd solenoid is just for the drying cycle? (I’ve never used the dryer), in this case I’ve either got a blockage or restriction in the fill side (inside the valve or soap tray), or the solenoid is weak and not lifting the valve far enough, the major sympton is that it now takes ages to fill the drum (It’s much quieter as well), I’m off to take another look.

Aaarh…now we are getting somewhere….. Usually cold fill problems are caused by lime scale build- up in the dispenser inlet nozzle. Unclip the black rubber hose on the cold end of the dispenser top then remove and clean the restrictor nozzle that sits in the end. Likewise the double cold valve itself may be the problem as is very likely considering it’s age. The good news is that at least that part is still available most everywhere….all the best with that!

OK I think I’ve got this figured, kind of counter intuitive but here goes.
The hot water feed sprays into the soap tray, cold water doesn’t it just dribbles through, switching the pipes over make no difference so no blockage in the soap tray, the only difference is there’s a flow restrictor/diffuser in the hot water valve stub, the one in the cold water stub is missing – no back pressure and no noise (that’s the bit that confused me, it was too quiet), if I pinch the cold hose the pressure goes up and it sprays through the soap tray.
Looks like I need a new double cold valve because it’s doubtful the restrictor/diffuser is available as a separate item.
BTW, the insides are as clean as a whistle, no limescale here with pure Ennerdale water.

Exactly what I figured, considering it’s age it must be well clapped out..! The good news is that you can buy a new one by CLICKING HERE

New valve fitted and she’s working like a new machine again
thanks all
