Hi there a few weeks ago my Hotpoint SE48101PGX tripped the electrics then wouldn’t switch on. I re-connected the power cable at the terminal just in case any of the wires were loose & it worked fine again for a few weeks until the other day when it completely died.
There is no display or signs of life in it at all. I took off the back & used a meter to do continuity tests from the power terminal to see if power should be getting into the oven & everything seemed fine up to the main circuit board where all I know what to do is look for anything that appears damaged. On the small square circuit board that sticks perpendicularly out from the main Power board I found a small black plastic square thing looked to have blown (yep I know all the technical jargon 😳 ) & the black cylinder thing that is rite next to it seems to have a dry powdery residue stuck to the top of it as can be seen below:
I’ve seen the “Power Board Hot2005 Pyro No Eeprom” advertised online for about £75 inc delivery so would just like to ask someone who actually knows about this stuff, do you think I should just try ordering this & replacing it my self? Or could the problem be a bit more complicated? Any help much appreciated!! Cheers.

if it is under five years old I would ring the Indesit Company. That sort of damage doesn’t ‘happen’, it is caused by faults elsewhere.
The new board will need an eeprom and also need programming, either by an Indesit engineer with the software on his laptop or by someone who has also purchased the smart card and the £100 card reader needed to program the board.
Your parts are covered for five years, the labour is rather high and you will get badgered into paying more for a service contract but if you try and fix this yourself you will be seriously out of pocket.

To try & cut a very long story short I bought this oven online from an ebay electrical appliance seller about a year & a half ago rite in the middle of my chaotic 3 year house renovating project. I was living at various addresses while I was doing the work & things were so mental at the time that I ended up losing the paperwork for a few of the appliances that I bought for the new house in all the mess, including the oven in question! Just my luck that the first thing to go in the first few months of moving in would be one of the things I lost all the bumf for.
So I take it if I can’t find any paperwork etc what so ever I’m knackered & it’s time for a new oven? I’ll not be able to replace it with anything nearly as good as the SE48101PGX as I’m financially wiped out now 🙁

If you could give me the full serial number plus any other numbers from the rating plate I may be able to date the machine, They are not strict on paperwork if the date code is within five years.
Interesting that you think of anything made by the Indesit Company in the past few years as ‘good’.
A few hours spent reading this forum would soon disabuse you. 😉

Lol when I say “good” I just meant the Mrs loved the functions & probably much more importantly because it matched the curtains or something! I barely know how to make oven chips in it never mind have an idea of what quality it is, although I am starting to get an idea now me thinks!

Hmmm, you seem to have given two different serial numbers, if the one beginning with 86 is correct then it was made in Feb 2009, if it is 90 then it is July 2009.
Both appear to be well within the 5 year period. 🙂

Yeh I’m not exactly sure why there are 2 boxes, 1 starting with: “S/N” & the other with: “HP S/N” but hopefully it dosent really matter if both are within the time 🙂
So I take it the next step is to ring Hotpoint tomorrow when the lines are open. I see you say the labour will be high, I don’t suppose you know if they can give a quote or something before carrying out the work so I know I can afford it? Suppose I can ask them in the morning!

Like several manufacturers now, the Indesit Company appear route their calls through Domestic & General whose sole aim in life is to stitch you up with a service contract.
The labour charge alone is usually £105.00 regardless of parts/time but you will get the hard sell on the contract. :rolls:

Yep you were not wrong about the hard sell! 😆
I was offered 2 options:
OPTION 1: 3 payments over 3 months of £40 (= £120 total) for the engineer to come out & fix it.
OPTION 2: 12 payments of £15.79 (= 189.48 total) for the engineer to come out & fix it & then be covered for Parts, Labour & Accidental damage for a year.
Then they tried to hard sell me £41 worth of some kind of washing machine cleaner, I politely declined several times before they let me go!

😳 Sorry, forgot to mention the descaler sales pitch/scam.
I have heard of one old lady in Scotland with mild dementia. She has rung them a few times when there was no real fault on the machine.
She now has six boxes of descaler on her window ledge, the irony is that her water supply is one of the softest in the country, no need for a descaler anyway. :rolls:

What really made me chuckle is when he started asking me if I had a washing machine or dishwasher at home, he must have been able to hear it in my voice that I was on to him because he said “don’t worry I’m not trying to sell you anything” and then blatantly proceeded to try and sell me a big bag of descaler! 😆

Glock I have to say your testimony is typical of the way the Indesit company operate. I would suggest you don’t give them the pleasure of extracting more money from you. After all the only option you have is to shell out a further £190 for them to sort it!
No sir….time to rethink….place two fingers high in the air and commit your finances to a more worthy cause by changing brands.
