ParticipantI seem to be getting an inordinate amount of failures of the drum paddles in our Hotpoint Aqualtis AQ9F49U.
over the past 18 months we have had to change 5 (at a tenner or more a piece) as the lugs just snap off. We do not wash trainers or anything like that; just moderate use for a family of 5.
Is this normal?
Is there something I may not be doing when fitting the replacements that exacerbates the failures?
I would suspect this is a manufacturing fault. Any opinions?June 25, 2012 at 9:40 pm #377179iadom

Apart from the fact that this is a 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Indesit made machine, with a totally sealed drum it is not a manufacturing fault as such. Unless you take into account that Indesit quality is not the best by a long chalk.
That said the lifters come off for two main reasons, washing trainers which you say you don’t or leaving coins etc in pockets.
Have you pulled any coins out of the pump filter?
If the part number is C00064789 then there is a tab in the drum underneath each lifter that has to be pulled up after a new lifter is fitted.
There is a special tool to achieve this which I think we have in the online store.

Hi, Did the fixing tool solve the problem as I have exactly the same issue?
Thanks,

To tell the truth I wouldn’t waste your money on the tool.
I have recently seen one close up and it is totally useless. It is actually a thick wire hook designed for pulling the door springs up on dishwashers.
It is far to thick to even fit through the holes in the drum lifters and has no chance of fitting under the tab in the drum.
One of the official fixes for drums that have broken tabs is to insert the lifter, then VERY CAREFULLY, ( making sure you don’t go through the outer drum ) drill a small hole in front of the lifter and insert a very short, stainless steel screw.

You can see from these pictures just how useless this tool is.
It is far too thick to even fit under the drum tab and will only fit through the hole in the top of the lifter when held at the angle in the picture, something that is obviously totally impossible when the lifter is fitted into the drum. -
