ParticipantHi,
Could I please ask for some advice? My approx 5 year old Bosch Classixx WAE24162GB/03 washing machine made a loud “pop” last night about 10 minutes into a wash cycle. All the lights went out and it’s now completely dead. My OH has had a look at it and there is power going to the main control board. Before he tries to get the board out is this machine likely to be fixable or is it going to end up too expensive to be worth it?
Many thanks in advance.

First thing to do is check the wash heater.

Thanks for your reply. Where would he find the water heater and if it is this that’s the problem would that also stop all power to the machine as there is power going to the back of the board but no lights coming on?

Heater should be at the back.
But, in all honesty, asking that question would indicate that you really would be better to get someone in to look at it for you.

At that age it could also be the main motor, had one just this morning, tripped the rcd a couple of times, customer kept using it until it took out the fuse in the mains plug, motor down to earth and it has blown the PCB.
Around £350 worth of parts or more. 😥

Well my colleagues so far have waded in with enough information to put off the most resilient optimist. Though it is true to say the “symptoms” do suggest something serious has occurred, I would calmly take it one step at a time. True, the heater needs looking at ( oh, and by the way, it is at the front!) and so too the motor. But most Bosch’s that go bang don’t always mean either are to blame.
If you feel the need then take the PCB off and inspect it for damaged circuits. I think I would based from what you tell us. Any blown tracks or components will indeed indicate that bad news is the likely result. If no damage is apparent then there’s some hope at least that something less serious has occurred.

Thank you so much for all your replies. My OH has had another look at the machine this morning (he does know what he’s doing…honest!) 😀
Unfortunately, it is terminal for my poor old, well used Bosch Classixx as the PCB board has blown in 2 places. 😥
Thanks for your advice.
