ParticipantSo typical situation, 10-13 year old fridge is working fine, unplug it to do some hoovering, plug it back in, thing doesn’t work, has power, leds light up, but no compressor action. An ‘error’ of sorts is lit up on the display, but not an error code you car read, just fully lit up screen = error.
Couple of linked pics (huge for detail)

http://i.imgur.com/GvjpE.jpgWhen plugging it in I can hear a click from the area of the board that has the blue square relays in (top left) but nothing else, the transformer is outputting DC voltage (measured with DMM and the display lights up)
Can’t see any broken fuses (there are only two)
Nothing looks burnedIt’s a twin fridge (side by side) so has 2* temp sensors and ‘heaters’ (marked on the PCB) so a bit more wiring than normal perhaps, as well as two cables labelled ‘solenoid’ so as it’s a side by side I guess it has a 4way valve in the refrigeration circuit somewhere.
Oh, should say of course it’s a Samsung skr1370g but I don’t think that’ll help much, it’s a Korean specific fairly old model.
The PCB has 240 Volts running through it ok (again checked with DMM) but it isn’t outputting anything to the compressor, guessing one of the relays/chips has thrown a wobbly and won’t let it run. Unless I can track down a PCB from 1999 this whole fridge is now junk I guess.
Thanks!

KeymasterHelp with Samsung Fridge PCB problem
Hi
Let’s forget about the pcb being the problem to start with.
Can you show a photo of the front display after it starts up as that will show a error code. At a quess without seeing it though your unit has a ice maker/dispenser in it.

Thank you very much for the help there.
It’s not a US/UK spec fridge, it’s an old Korean style chest freezer (2 compartments) only sold in Korea, the display isn’t in English, it’s not an error code as such, more of a 7seg type LCD that has sections that light up (I forget there real name!) So not sounding rude but a photo wouldn’t help.So might just give this up as a bad job! Going to see if the compressor will run when connected up directly though, as there is a slim hope after that!
I guess I was searching for ‘common’ items to fail on 10 year old fridge control boards, and possibly samsung specific errors 🙂
Cheers.

hi
the display on 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of samsungs give out error code on the display weither korean or usa or european. They all come out of the same factories. As a samsung trained engineer I think i would know a bit more than guessing.Bryan

Allow me to come back with a photo tomorrow for you.
It’d be great for you to give it a once over 🙂July 4, 2012 at 4:24 am #377628tigerstyle

This is the half of the screen that lights up, the other half is blank, under normal use only a few of the green segments should light up.
http://i.imgur.com/sTKyn.jpg?1
http://i.imgur.com/bJZN7.jpg?1The compressor runs when bypassing the relay that controls it, but the relay isn’t faulty as putting 12Volts across it activates it fine.
Reading around and doing some checks it looks like a thermistor problem, and the screen lighting up on different sides elates to me swapping the two thermistor inputs on the PCB. One measures 400-Ohms, the other 6K-Ohms, if I could get a big variable resistor I could maybe check it before taking the thing to pieces to get to the faulty part 🙂
R600, hopefully these thermistors breaking is reasonably (however annoying they are!) common, and you have some quick checks I can carry out?

Hi
Both thermistors should have the same readings as they are both the same one used. You could try to get the current samsung thermistor and try that on it as they seem to have used the same one in all the refrigeration for the past 12 yrs other than material changes to get away from water penetration.
The model was also sold in brazil and france for a period,I do have the user manual but I can’t read korean. Also known as a Kimchi refrigerator

That great advice thanks, do you know what the Ohm readings of a brand new fully working thermistor should be? Presume around 6K is close enough!
Anything to rig up at home to test the rest of the circuit is ok?July 4, 2012 at 7:29 am #377631admin

Thats great, my working thermistor is spot on, 24.5°C @ 5.667K-Ohms. Fantastic little chart there! worth printout out and sticking on the back of the fridge for future trouble solving!
The ‘dead’ one is showing 0.7K at what is roughly the same temp. Will try and find a replacement locally 🙂

Hi
You should be able to get this part locally in korea DA32-00006W This is a samsung thermistor.Hopefully it should fit your appliance.Worth a try.
