My Bosch washing machine (Exxcel 7 1200 Express )has started making a knocking sound, it only happens as the machine is picking up spin speed and stops before it reaches top speed.

    I have checked the following:

    Drum springs
    Shocks underneath
    Bearings
    Flatness of the floor !
    Weight block
I can feel no give side to side in the internal drum.

The waste pipe gives a flex with every knock.

Is it the pump? Is it one of the drum supports between the inner drum and outer casing?

I’m fairly confident I can make the repair, I just don’t want to start doing the job if I’m way out in my reasoning! Many thanks – Simon

You didn’t give us the model number (Enr no) which would help. But I suspect neither the pump or the drum to blame. More likely it is a shock absorber/base sub frame/ cabinet spot weld problem. The way to confirm that is to run the machine with access to the side panels. Ensure first it is on a level/ flat surface and that the 4 feet are secure. Then run a rinse & spin cycle with a load of towels (or similar) and at the point the clicking/ knocking noise manifests itself just run your finger underneath the machine (on the outside of the cabinet course)) in the vicinity of the shock absorber mounts. If my suspicion is correct the vibration felt with your fingers in that immediate vicinity will confirm a spot weld cabinet problem being the issue here. A common problem on certain models of a certain age. Of which there is no cure nor will it affect the life or operation of the machine.

If I’m right and you still wish a more effective solution then….buy a pair of earplugs!

With the lid off and appliance unplugged , push down on the drum at both sides . Doesit make a ‘kedoing’ noise ? It may be that the suspension springs need lubricating where they hang on the cabinet/cross bar.
