Hi,
I recently bought an ISE W1607W. Today I got a call from the missus to say all the electrics were off. The issue is with the washing machine, the second it get’s turned on at the wall it trips the breaker. I wondered if the issue was perhaps with the socket so tried plugging the washing machine into an extension cable from another socket. Same thing, the second the plug goes in it trips the rcd on the extension.
The reason I paid so much for a washing machine was in the hope it would be reliable. Not working out too well so far! Any suggestions I could try? As with a new bairn in the house I could do with getting it up and running asap.

yup I’ll be calling uk whitegoods tomorrow. just thought I’d see if anyone had experienced similar and had an easy fix.

It does actually sound like an earth return failing like maybe the earth tab in the machine has got knocked of in transit?…..just guessing mind you. :con:

The machine has worked fine for the month and a half I’ve had it, do you think the earth tab could have worked loose?
Yup I’ve checked the plug and cable and both look fine.

Kwatt, yup, first thing I did was check the socket. I tried plugging the machine into an extension cable attached to another socket. The second the plug pins entered the socket on the extension it tripped the rcd on the extension. It did this every time. It’s not even like it happened when I tried to turn the machine on, it happens the second the pins on the plug make contact with the socket.

Bit of an update. I drained the machine, plugged it back in and it powered up without tripping the electrics. Started a wash, could hear the water start to flow into the machine, then bang (not literally!) the rcd tripped. So it’s obviously something to do with water levels and electrics….which is a bit concerning!

Or it could be that whatever is causing a problem is being energised at that point, which is a much, much more likely explanation. Especially so since the volume of water would have, pretty much, zero effect that could cause that to happen.
Things like the heater, motor, inverter card are not powered until they are required and, if there is a fault with any of them at all, even from impact damage or whatever, often any fault would not be immediately apparent.
In other words, to judge you need to have experience and investigate the issue properly.
