I am having an interesting conversation regarding trust logos and their use with IMRG who’s logo’s I’ve removed temporarily as they’re screwing us over on them IMO.
They’re basically changing from a simple and effective scheme that costs £150 a year to one that would cost about £3000 per year. An increase that I wasn’t keen to swallow without knowing why we were paying that much.
Anyway, with Google doing their thing around the corner it could be a moot point as far as I’m concerned in that regard.
It did however set me to thinking.
I’ll need to ask Sudeep about the complexity of doing this but, in principle can you please have a think about the notion. The execution if you all want to do something with the idea we can deal with later…
What about you do a “WTA Member” and “WTA Approved Store” or something like those type thing, just like you would see for IMRG that’s using a bit of drop in code for websites? It’s only a bit of Javascript really that checks back that the member or trader is live and operates to the set standards.
Now, there’s a heap more you can do with it obviously and it could generate funds straight into the WTA coffers if applied correctly. For example, if UKW as a store was offered such a service for, say £250 a year, it’s a no-brainer to sign up.
Even if it’s turnover based for the likes of us, it’s still worth it if it’s not too expensive.
It might not generate a huge amount of revenue but, every little helps as they say.
Thought the idea might be worth kicking about a bit.

Re: Trust Logos
Okay, spoke to Lawrence about this and he asked me to try to explain a bit more so, I’ll try.
Sudeep got into this and we think we’ll have it ready to go live today or tomorrow! 😀
Here’s initial designs for trust logos:
That’s the logo for full members that I concocted this afternoon. That one is ONLY for actual pukka WTA members or, that’s the idea.
Then we have…
One for associate members of the WTA. I know you’ve never done anything with that idea up till now but it’s better design to build it in from the start so, it’s there and can be used or not as you see fit.
Then, finally this is the bit you’re gonna love…
Oops, forgot to pay your subscription fees, got banned? 😉
And, the beauty of it is that it actually simplifies the admin as we will have that held online and the end date is held so it will automatically expire and show the final logo if it is not reset by payment being made etc.
When you click on the icon a pop-up will be presented that will give the members details (whatever you like really) with a “yes this company is valid” type message and a WTA member.
The logic, design and coding is now pretty much done and Sudeep hopes to be testing it on the NW site in a bit.
There is of course more we can do with the technology in time and I hope to automate some more stuff using the same logic.
