When dishwasher is started it starts the draining pump for a few seconds then starts to fill up with water through the hole in the side wall (not through the rotating arms). When the water level reaches the bottom of the door the machine stops and the start light flashes. There is no pattern to the flashing; it just goes off and on continually. There is no water in the base of the machine and there does not appear to be a float valve. I have cleaned out the muck from the diaphragm operated switch but this has not helped. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be?

Sorry Scotty, too many variables with this one. They range from water level control problems, heater and circulation. Best bet is to get some professional help – you can check the Directories section or pop up your postcode and someone will probably pick up on it.

The fact that the start light has no pattern is rather worrying and suggests some sort of logic problem.

Whatever you do, pull the plug first.

Constant flashing is probably a single flash which indicates NTC fault.

Got home last night to find the kitchen had nearly flooded – problem with the washing machine. Just what I need in the run up to Xmas!

Traced problem to a partially blocked drain. Cleared this and now dishwasher and washing machine are OK.

Thanks to those who offered advice. Hope my experience helps someone solve their problem in the future.
