I just wondered if anybody has any experience of advertising with yell.com.
Is it worth taking out one of the sponsored “heavyweight prominence ” adverts?
I have a mediumweight prominence advert but quite often I am a long way down the page, and sometimes on the second page.I am only a few weeks in but don’t seem to be getting many more calls if any than I did with my “free listing”.
If I was to bite the bullet and go for a higher prominence I am guaranteed to be one of the first 3 on the page.
Has anybody tried the higher listing and if so have you had good results from it?
If anyone has any worthwhile info maybe you could “pm” me.

    Re: Yell.Com

The only thing I can say is that I am getting a lot of enquiries from yell.com of late. A lot was from my free listing, I have taken a heavyweight add out in one particular region to try it out. It is early days, and I dont think you can get data from the site about your advertising until a month has passed by.
If you put a search in your area via google yell is always high up the page. People click on it because it is a name they know.
I think I am paying about £140 odd pound over the year for a heavy weight add in a region close to me. The price depends on the region.
    Roger.

I use a bigger advert in Yell its near the top of the list and will be prominent hit for a punter looking for a repair. google washer repair, in my area, brings up Yell, brings up me.
beware yell selling you count lists as this means calls diverted via a special number your own number will not be shown! although you will receive all call via either, its a bit pointless if you have your standard number on cards, vans, invoices etc

“was” being the operative word as they gave up with the Free listing a long while back.

Blackandwhites needs to read the ‘related topics’ for the full SP on Yell I would suggest. 😉

    Re: Yell.Com

I have the absolute minimum on Yell.com with a link to my website.

Looking at Google analytics, not one referral or redirection from Yell.com to my website in the last 12 months.

Yellow pages, straight into the recycling bin, but I did take the wrapper off first.

    Re: Yell.Com

I have a top listing on Yell it brings in more 0845 numbers than punters this year. I’m not even thinking about a new listing next year, it brings in very little work yet it cost £1500+vat in my area.
When the ad has been renewed in the past it has been off line for two weeks while they sort paperwork, despite me filling in all their gumf weeks earlier it still goes off line when it expires, every year has been the same. I run a cooker repair ad, it expired on December 1st, I filled in the contract early November, it was off line till 23rd December missing all of the build up of the Xmas trade. I’ve had enough of it.
Their rep called last week to tell me he is now dealing with my account, I told him I’m out, no more money from me mate.
It took half an hour to get him off the phone, in the end I hung up. Even if me business was to go under, I would never advertise with Yell again.

As far as the Call Counter Numbers go, they are in my view useful, with Call Counter numbers you can see exactly how many people have call you via those numbers and at what times ! Without which how else would you effectively monitor and gauge if the advertising was paying its way ?

There will in my opinion be few people who will cross reference numbers on Yell.com to the numbers used elsewhere, The name is the same and they will use whatever number is published to call you. Customers who have your invoices, cards and who see your vehicle will still use those numbers.

At least this is my experience and I have 1st and 3rd place sponsored listings so we are always 1st or 3rd in different classifications, we get a lot of calls from Yell.com in our directory area, a lot of people commute into London, at the office they do not have a copy of the local telephone directory or Yellow Pages to hand, however they have www access and we are by that medium one click and call away !

    Suits Me !

    Re: Yell.Com

If it works for you then stick with it. I have not found it so effective and I have been messed about by them so many times. My advert was offline for 3 weeks in the run up to Christmas. The reps always said it was a “computer error” and it would be on line in 48 hours, it took them 3 weeks to sort it. I always monitor calls and website hits according to them I had 107 website hits in one month, according to Google it was only 14, strange that!
I guess it depends on where you are and who deals with your account, I’ve had 3 reps in 4 years and none of them gave a hoot about customer service, all they wanted was a signed contract.
