I’ve put this in here for now because if in the normal trade forums some well meaning person will answer this in the manner I don’t want it answered. I will explain in a minute.
We have called to a Fridge on comet Insurance though Connect and call was passed as “crack in the liner”. We took no action except filled out the engineers report & taken a photo as per request from Connect. Then completed the call as non-repairable.
They have now got back to me & told us we must seal the crack with a sealant, and close as repaired.
I am not happy to do so, citing bacteria and possible ice ball in the insulation.
I have asked them for their “mission statement” regards this type of “repair” and requested in writing that they will take responsibility if there are any comebacks.
Do any of you guys actually do this, and are you normally OK with it? My refrigeration engineers say no (Probably because I have never allowed them to do this) and I’m in full agreement.
The reason (For now) I’ve put this in here is because some well meaning soul will say “Oh we do this all the time” and then CDSL will read into it that I’m being officious. Also they will think I’m looking for authority from others despite me refusing to do this.

Candy used to have special stuff to do it that, to be fair, was pretty good and looked okay. It was bloody expensive though, over a decade ago it was £20 or so a tube.
But, you have to catch it early, if it’s been there for months there will be moisture in the insulation and it will fail sooner or later. So my strategy is that I will tell them I’ll seal it if they want me to but that I will offer no warranty whatsoever on the repair.

We have just had a BER refused for cracks in liner ,we were told that other companies seal them so why don’t we.
I got straight on to Vicky who was dynamic and on the ball as usual NOT!
Apparently ,bosch and lux are using food grade sealant,so it is okay to do so,I queried what happens if I get recalled as the integrity of the insulation may be compromised,her response “err”

If you could find out the part number for the sealant I would be interested, both me and Alex are ‘lux’ agents. I have never sealed a cracked liner and neither has Alex by the sound of it. If queried I would advise on bacteria and moisture penetration. Also would not offer a guarantee.
