ParticipantFreezer works fine but the fridge isnt cooling, i called out local repair man who removed the rear of freezer comp, and found no power to the fan but power to the block the fan is wired to. He wasn’t interested in investigating further. Could this be the pcb or the thermstat/switch parts which are available and could i test and do this repair myself..bearing in mind im a chippie..thanks. thought id add appliance is 4 year old hardly been used as in a holiday home so off for long periods. it seems to have given off the odd noise since fault came apprent and the digital display states a W.

its one of those jobs
a bit difficult to diagnose from afar
how did he test for power on the fan. if he did it with the door open then its not test as most of these fans only run with door closed
if the fan is running there is normally a motorised flap in the fridge that has to open. if it does not then could be flap , pcb , or thermostat
not to drag on further you need to look on this site for a local engineer with knowledge of these units. he will prob know common faults and will prob advise on the phone the most likely problems

Inside the freezer compartment about half way up on the right hand side is a small plastic cover.
Make sure the fridge door is closed and put a magnet against this cover if the fan is not working when the magnet is used the most common fault is the fan motor.
It is a common fault on the later APM6855 for the fan motor to fail.Bob

thanks bob, i will try this and Dave ive tried a few local repairers and none of them seem to be interested in the work. the guy that did come out and test took out the rear compartment and the fan is wired into a sort of conecting block. He tested by using an electricans screwdriver with a light in it. There was power to the end of the block but nothing at the two fan wires but obviously, i would think if the pcb or thermoswitch has gone then power wouldn’t be sent to the fan, would this be a correct way of thinking. Thanks again for te advice.

no unfortunatly
a lot of electronic controls switch neutral which means the connectors are always live
i would go with Samuri as my knowlege on friges is more limited

With the APM6855 if you have a fan fault it would only be the fan or the switch sensor at fault.
The pcb / modules are reliable and unlikly to fail.
The switch sensor at the top for the fridge are also unlikely to fail.
The freezer sensor on the right hand side under the cover in the freezer can fail but this is unlikly and you can cut the sensor off and join the wires together to bypass this sensor if it has failed. WARNING MAKE SURE THE MAINS POWER IS OFF AS THE SENSOR IS LIVE EVEN IF THE FRIdGE IS TURNED OFF AT THE CONTROL MODULE.
It is more likly to be the fan motor itself at fault.
You need to have the fridge door closed. If you take the front cover off in the freezer and pass a magnet over the sensor on the right hand side in the freezer you will most likly see a small movement of the fan blade this will prove the sensor is OK and the fan is faulty.

A good chance it’s the fan motor but as check as detailed previously. If you determine it’s the fan motor, there are two types:
round and square commectors UKWG stor should be able to supply.

i have placed the magnet over the sensor as suggested but no movement in the fan. joined sensor wires and fan started to work. Thanks very much for all your help the only trouble, i went out and bought a new fridge this morning. What does this sensor do, what is it called and are they available, is it worth replacing it or just join the wires together. Thanks again.

The sensors are available from AWS but the newer models did not fit a sensor in the freezer.
Under normal conditions it will not make a difference.
So it is up to you if you want to replace it.

ok .I Let the fridge run for a while and it seems the fan motor is also gone, it spins fine initially the stops and looks as if its trying to turn but cant although when i turn the power off it spins freely by hand so looks as though i will change this as well. Thanks again for all your help.

I tried turning my fridge and more importantly freezer off for 36 hours removed the back panel in the freezer quite easily pulled out panel containing fan and checked the coil for ice , checked the fan was working and then turned back on. seems to be working now. obv the heater could have gone but atm its working fine. the fridge uses the cold air from the freezer and if its iced up the fan will not blow it into your fridge so if your freezer is working it will be airflow to your fridge. cost us about £10 in frozen food but worth it for a working fridge.
