I understand why it’s a guarded secret but I know more people ripping off customers because of false diagnoses it’s actually crazy, instead of making machines easier to repair, it’s the gansters who are making money and giving the main brands a bad name because they can’t afford the proper call out fees

ripping off customers
gansters who are making money
Blimey, thats all strong stuff.
I don’t think software & USB connections will solve this.

I am not saying everyone’s ripping everyone off or gansters but they are out there, I feel if proper engineers had proper equipment to diagnose faults instead of engineers second guessing all the time

well you can get a key for inde stuff and I believe there’s a smart card thingy for eeprom programming but to be honest 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time I’ve found a combination of the in built diagnostic, an attentive ear to the customers and a wee bit detective work generally gets you there without a lot of fancy toys! When with Inde i had the wash doc kit and although undoubtedly handy it was interpreting what it told you which was important not always just the info it provided.

Thanks for your kind reply, I know a bit if hard work is the way to go but if I had something to fault find like the “big boys” it would be so much easier. I am only starting out and have mid diagnosed faults and where I come from there’s no passing the buck so I am stuck with the parts ( my fault I know) any idea where I could purchase this wash doc kit or smart cards?? Even if it’s only for resetting programmes. Thanks hopefully in advance

unfortunately the wash doc is exclusively for the use of merloni in house engineers. It’s even date barred by wireless update so I couldnt even make a copy before I left.Theres a topic in the trade technical inquiries section gives you a ream of fault codes and internal diagnostics, this will give you all the information an inde key would ( I believe you can still buy them direct from indesit )Personally when changing an inde/hotpoint pcd I unsolder the eeprom from the origial board and solder it into the new one hence transfering the eeprom data without any programming kit.Occasionally you get a corrupt eeprom but its the exception rather than the rule.

You do realise that there is no universal solution don’t you?
All the various manufacturers have their own (usually unique) systems that are tied to specific devices and/or leads for connection as well as software. Normally these are proprietary and they don’t interface with a PC as such, they connect to an intermediate device first if they have PC connectivity at all.
You cannot buy the Indesit diagnostic kit that works on Hotpoint as it is unavailable to anyone outside of Indesit’s employ. Highly restrictive practise IMO but, there you go.

Yes I do understand that there are different makes models leads software ect ect, I am not looking for a universal problem. But hopefully the answer to many seems to be extreamly wishful thinking on my part lol

unfortunately your spot on it is wishful thinking ! Although as previously stated a great many modern appliances have on board diagnostics which if properly utilised can point you in the right direction.Unfortunately we all mis diagnose from time to time the key to success is time, an extra 5 mins checking things with your megger/meter can save you many pounds in the long run
