Re: Hotpoint Aquarius WMA 34 leaking water into drum btwn wa
There are only two reasons why machines fill when not in use.
Either one of the fill valves has failed or the machine is badly plumbed in.
The fact that the water smells suggests that your plumbing may be at fault, however long term use of low temperatures and liquid detergents will also cause the machine to smell badly.
If it is connected to the undersink waste pipe then it should be routed with an inverted ‘U’ bend in the grey plastic outlet pipe to prevent the sink contents seeping into the drum. That said, your machine should have a non return valve fitted to the pump to prevent this happening. Years ago these valves were known to stick and sometimes engineers removed them.
If it is either of the fill valves then you can isolate which one by turning off one of the two taps to the fill hoses. If you turn both off and it still fills its your outlet plumbing, if you turn off the cold and it still fills then it is the hot valve and vice versa.
