Any help would be much appreciated. The problem is my dryer, when I start it it tries to spin then gives up, it doesn’t budge an inch. When I try to turn it by hand its so difficult, I can barely move it. How can I check what has failed? Is it the bairings? Thanks

It might be the ‘bearings’….unplug and take off the small cover on the back, either a small square cover, dead centre or a half moon, grey plastic cover.
If you get a pile of black dust and possibly the end of the drum shaft then your drum shaft and bearings have failed, very common fault. Kit to repair is 1703080, available in our online shop.

If you want to buy all of the separate bits then it will cost you more than buying that kit. I always carry two or three with me and can repair the vast majority of Hotpoint/Indesit/Creda/Proline dryers of recent ( last ten years ) with that kit. You may not need all of the parts and if your drum felt seals are in good order then there is no need to use them from the kit.

I have had a look at the bearing at the back and all seems ok there, no black dust. The dryer works for approx 10 minutes then the motor starts to make a whirring noise and it starts to struggle then stops, I can also hear screeching coming from somewhere, I think its the bearing, any more ideas?

It could be the jockey pulley, you can see the black, plastic jockey pulley by removing the right hand (from front) side panel, after removing the mains plug of course. It can break up or wear badly causing the belt to slip off or jam.

Bottom line is that this pulley is very difficult to change. 🙁
