ParticipantHi
I’m considering buying a second hand Bosch washing machine, and was wondering whether you can tell roughly how old a machine is based on the particular letters and numbers in the model name? (I mean is there some kind of code/meaning in the names, or are they pretty random?)
Thanks
Colin

if you had stated the model some of us may have an idea but
if you get the full Enr number and serial no I am sure Bosch would be able to date it for you
look up bosch for your country through googleDave

Thanks. I didn’t give a model number because I’ve just started looking, and was asking a more general question about whether the naming system means anything. Just been reminded reading another post that I should probably be avoiding any with a sealed drum…

Hi
If you post up the full ENR number and the FD number we will be able to tell you the year of production.

DonThanks guys — I obviously didn’t phrase my question very well. There is no specific machine that I’m interested in, otherwise I would’ve given the ENR and FD. I just wanted to know whether Bosch use random letters and numbers in their naming scheme, or is there some system to it?
Mebbe I’d better wait, and post again when I’ve actually found a specific machine…

if you add 20 to the fd number this will give you the year of production

hi. as washtronics quoted, if you know the FD (german for manufacturing date) number then add 20 to the first 2 numbers but ignore the first number if it turns into a 5 digit number, the last 2 numbers are the month.
IE 7904 means 9904 or april 1999, 8401 means (1)0401 therefore made in jan 2004, 9108 means (1)1108 or august 2011,
hope this helps

Fantastic, thanks! That’s good to know. (Thanks washtronics too.)
OK, I now have a couple of specific second-hand machines that I’ve found:
E-Nr. WAE20262AU/01 FD 9010 900926
Looks like that was made in Oct 2010.E-Nr. WFL2400AU/28 FD 8502 900461
Made in Feb 2005Any opinions about which is a better bet? (sealed drums?)
Thanks!
Colin

both decent machines but the WAE is only 1000 spin speed where as the wfl is 1200, the WAE is a lot newer though and is just in guarentee so you can test the hack out of it to be sure its ok and get it sorted if required.

Thanks linrew!
I’m still looking, ‘cos the person selling the WAE wanted too much for it…A long shot, but a friend’s offered an LG washer, which is currently in storage, and she only has the serial number — can anyone tell which LG model it is based on this? (asking a bit much, I know 😕 )
Either
512PHP097336 or
512PMP097336I’d be interested in how that compares to a low range Bosch…
Thanks
Colin

I found this PDF a while ago that might be of help in finding the age of white goods from several manufacturers. Unfortunately, it’s in German, but it’s not so hard to understand what things mean by looking at the context:
