Sadly, it seems that Asko’s owners, Gorenje, has decided to move the entire Asko production from Sweden to Slovenia next year.

Will this affect the ISE-Asko collaboration in any way? And what about the quality of ISE and Asko machines built from next year onwards?

    Question one: no.

Question two: shouldn’t do as they are moving the entire production line lock stock and barrel. Same machines exactly, the people operating the line just speak a different language.

Furthermore the Gorenje factory in Valenje is exceptionally clean and modern.

I was impressed by the work ethic among all the workers from production to senior management.

hopefully gorenje might look at a decent machine and not wreck it.

Well, that does sound promising. Or at least in the short term.

What I’m worried about, though, is what might happen to Asko in the long term. Will Gorenje resist the temptation to give Asko the “AEG treatment”? Just look at the new AEG Protex washing machines launched by Electrolux – it seems all the machines in the new range, including the high-end ones, now have sealed tubs. Who would have thought that would happen back in 1994 (when Electrolux purchased AEG Hausgeräte), or even a year or two ago?

(In any case, I think it’s a safe bet that ISE will never launch a washing machine with a sealed tub, but ISE is unfortunately not available for non-UK residents.)
