By P in the other thread leads me onto the this topic rather nicely as it’s my task for this weekend, well one of them at least…

What do we want to see being said about UKW when this goes out?

There’s the blatently obvious about spares info, tech info and all that but what would you want to say to people about the site? Bear in mind that this is going to go to every domestic appliance repairer in the UK so it’s a massive endevour and one that we may only get one shot it, so it has to be right.

I’m tapping away, just looking to cover all the bases and make sure that there’s enough information to make people want to look as well as covering any bases I may have overlooked.

Stress the informal nature of UKW – it doesn’t matter if you’re an engineer or a director, you’re treated exactly the same and have the same opportunities to contribute to and partake of the site.

Plus the obvious outlined above of course.

…….Stress also that UKW has the wealth of knowledge within its membership to be able to open doors to business opportunity. The ability to point people in the right direction on problem solving and knowing who, where and how to contact, encompassing the entire industry and beyond…….!

    E-jobs 😉

You’ve probably already got that though 😀

Apart from that, ditto all of the above, as P says, the informality of UKW is paramount, the vast majority of the guys out there don’t and will never do contract work, they’re you’re everyday one man bands (no disrespect intended) who just want to offload tales and get help with tips and tricks.

Look what happened to DASA 8)

In my case (and I suspect a good few others), UKW have taken away a frustrating brick wall which existed, caused by knowing tech information etc. was out there, but not knowing where to look for it!!

Also simple cross referancing of parts……not many suppliers or manufacturers will go out of their way to help you get that same element, brush kit, stat cheaper will they.

UKW will save you money…There’s a tag line 😉

Simply tell everyone; “chances are your colleagues are on it, your enemies may be on it, your work providers take an active interest and above all there is nothing to lose by being part of your own destiny”.

One important thing; whenever you get approached by RETRA FSB or FPB etc. there is a hefty subscription fee, and doubtless the person sat in your office trying to cajole you into joining his society is on a commission. We are not, just simply on a mission.

Whether is is a sole trader or multi branded agent we are all suffering the same effects this industry has to offer us. Don’t let it die around us, we are professionals and in 10 years time there will be less good repairers out there.

Legislation is getting more stringent, we need to keep together to be conversant with the demands that are creeping in. Added to that, pooling of information, location and identification of odd spares. Tales of woe, and lets not forget the funny stories just to remind ourselves, it isn’t that bad really.

You are not alone, but so easily could be.

One good thing would be if we could somehow attract more Manufacturers engineers ,I noticed we have a new Comet engineer on board who has already hooked up with another re installations,I drove past our local holiday Inn the other day and what should be in the carpark but 9 Dyson vans obviously a team meeting of some sort ,I kicked myself later I could have put a flyer of some sort on every windscreen ,However I did bump into a Dyson engineer at the post office a couple of days later struck up a conversation and mentioned UKW ,He wasn’t interested until I mentioned anonymity ,He said he was going to have a look obviously I don’t know if he did but bearing in mind the amount of Dyson w/m queries someone like that could be useful.
A couple of ex engineers of mine are now British gas ,And I have just texted them with a simple message and the web address If just one takes alook and likes it maybe the word will spread ,we all have trade contacts maybe we could do a big recruiting campaign through them .

    Just a few ramblings

Some superb posts guys and I may even quote some of the comments, I hope there’s no issue with that.

Reaching employed engineers was always going to be an uphill struggle but there are actually quite a few on here, but not in the subscriber area sadly.

They don’t need the extras Ken, they’ve got the cushion of the Company – why have a reality check?

We should still go get them though…… 😀
