ParticipantWe had a squeaking noise on the machine early in the wash cycle but the drum, at some later stage, has stopped turning, though the water has been pumped out.
Setting it to spin only it shows 12 minutes, makes the usual pumping out noise, counts down to 11 minutes, continues pumping out (another minute?) and then shows 1 minute and stops. The drum doesn’t move at all during this time.
The machine is 8 years old.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be, and a solution, would be welcome.

The motor’s carbon brushes need replacing. 🙂

Thanks. Is it something that’s fairly simple to do? Are replacements easy to find? And are they reasonably priced!?

The brushes arrived very quickly (thanks) but the motor is refusing to budge. I’ve taken out the two bolts, released the electrical connector block and given the motor a tap with a hammer and a short length of wood through the rear inspection hatch but nothing’s moving.
I’m assuming that nothing needs to be undone/moved at the opposite end of the motor to the bolts and that it should just rotate downwards as it comes away. I’m also assuming that the plastic assembly through which the bolts are inserted doesn’t need to be removed separately.
Advice on the next line of attack would be welcome!

Take off the brushes and clean the armature, Use light sandpaper push against armature and spin the motor from the shaft until its clean, then refit brushes if that does not work it’s a new motor you need

Thanks, but I can’t persuade the motor to drop out so I can get to the brushes.

Once the two motor fixing screws are removed ease it rear wards (towards the rear panel) to lift it clear of its plastic mounting posts.

That did the trick : many thanks!
For anyone in a similar position, before removing the bolts, remove the clear plastic splash guard by cutting the plastic tie and then remove the earth wire and the adjacent rectangular connection block (squeeze the tabs in to allow its removal).
The motor hangs on four pegs and, once the two bolts in the rear two pegs have been removed, the motor slides along the pegs towards the back of the machine and then drops off. It’s heavy…
To make the job easier, I removed the rear panel. This provided more light on the motor and the bolts, though, as advised elsewhere, it’s best to undo the bolts with the machine leaning on its right side against something that isn’t going to move and on something non-slip: the rear panel opening is sharp.

Hi,
EXACTLY the same problem as OP and changed the brushes as advised. Brushes in right way round and move freely within their housing.
Problem still persists – any ideas?!

In your case you’re gonna have to give us the full Enr number (shown on the rating plate at the back and on the inside of the door) as there could be other issues. 😐
