ParticipantSorry for the obscure subject but basically as my dishwasher just failed and as i made it worse trying to fix it i have replaced it with a better machine
This means i have a dishwasher in my garage that has all sorts of good condition working parts/trim so instead of it going to landfill im going to strip it down and sell off as many parts/bits of trim as i can because from a quick glance it appears that a lot of the inner workings are the same as a lot of other dishwashers made in China (Hotpoint SDW80 if your interested)
So my question to people in the trade is do you think it is actually in cash money worthwhile aquiring broken washers/dryers/dishwashers and breaking them down to component parts to list on ebay and if so any popular models of washers/dryers/dishwashers to keep an eye out for to break for spares?

There is virtually nothing of any real value in your machine, most of the parts in it are not that good when new, so second hand they are worth very little. Have you considered how you are going to dispose of the cabinets and other parts you will be very unlikely to get rid of on these second hand machines you propose to buy, do you know anything at all about WEEE?

I know that most of (well all) the bits in my now broken machine are cheap rubbish but i figure it owes me nowt anymore so the heater, pump, control panel, metal door front, top, racks, sprayarms are all gonna go on e-bay cheaply just to see if they sell and try to recoup a bit of money that i spent buying a half decent machine
In regards to the cabinet I would try and sell off as many panels as i can but i know the tub would not go, to get rid of the metal parts i was just going to pile them up until i had a few and then call a metal recycler to come and pick them up
Its not an idea i have given heavy thought to – its just something that came to mind earlier today when i stubbed my foot on the thing in the garage

So, will your wife/partner/neighbours/local council etc be happy to see piles of old appliances hanging around until you decide you have enough junk built up to dispose of them. 😉

And will you be telling the local council or the taxman about this venture?

If i do it then yes (im also looking at buying MOT failure cars cheaply and breaking them for parts so it will be a bit hard to hide what im doing)

Hi
You also need all the correct paperwork for handling/ transporting waste and hazardist waste materials.
