The oven does not heat up when put in fan mode, but does work when in conventional mode. The fan is working so I think it must be the heater element that surrounds it, is there anyway to make sure before I pay £30 for a new one??

The only real way to make sure it is the element at fault is to put a meter over the terminals on the ohms range. A good element will read around 28 / 30 ohms. If its open circuit the element is dead.
ONLY attempt any work like this with the oven DISCONNECTED.If your’e not confident with doing this I’m sure you can find a friendly local repairer in the directories section.
