KeymasterHi all, hope someone can help, we have had the above dryer now for quite a while but all of a sudden it is not producing heat anymore, the drum spins but the air is just cold ! could this be a thermostat problem or maybe the heating element ? any advice would be well recieved, I have a good friend who is good with electrics and is willing to help me if I can find out the problem.
many thanks philDecember 18, 2004 at 4:54 pm #121719Martin

Phil,
It will almost certainly be the Element at fault. A replacement is readily available at our “Shop@” section as in the link below: –

Hi Smudger
A couple of things could be at fault. The heater, The exhaust stat or the stats on the heater.
If the stats on the heater are o/c you will have to replace the heater as these stats are calibrated to the heater.
The exhaust stat is inside the machine situated under the drum. If this is o/c then its at fault.
If you have no expertise in appliance repair then get a pro out
Many regards

Thanks to both of you, I have no intention of messing about inside this dryer, me and electrics don’t mix. My friend is coming round to look tomorrow, what do you mean by o/c ? I,m printing out the replies so it helps my friend.
He says he can check the element for continuity and if the element is at fault it will show up on his meter. All rocket science to me I’m afraid.
Thanks again

right we have checked the heating element and it has NO continuity, so it seems that this is the problem, I’m no sparky but I was just wondering if a fault on one of the 3 thermostats caused the heating element to break.
If this is the case I don’t want my friend to fit a new element for it to fry because of a faulty stat, if I’m barking up the wrong tree let me know, a local shop said it can get one for £47 ! told them the price on here and they said it cannot be right, I’m going to get one from this site insteadDecember 21, 2004 at 6:25 pm #121723Dave_Conway

The thermostats won’t cause heater failure, in which case, the new element comes with two of them already fitted to it.

Link above for you for the heater, I have them in stock so it’ll go tommorow if you order tonight or in the morning 😉

😀 WOW ! I was out last night with the lads, so I was not well pleased at first to be woken up by the royal mail this morning at 7:45am ! however it was the heating element I ordered yesterday morning, now that is good service, I never expected to get it so soon, its fitted and working 😛
Mrs Smudger is very happy indeed.
Thanks again Dave, I’m going to pass on the uk whitegoods link to all my friends

I have ran a continuaty tester and the heating element, looks as though it is O/C. Is it possible the heating element has a resistance? or do they normally have a very low resistance?

You have performed a resistance test with the element split from the circuit? If you don’t get 20-30 ohms, the element has failed.
This is what you want:
