interesting stuff
just messing about doing various search,s etc and found
repair and protect come up in the local search for edinburghis this the shape of thing to come , i thought local maps were for local business
maybe a mistake by google or dag ,. but someone must have done a local map listing to get it there.
maybe worth trying a search in other areas to see what happens ..

And if it breaks Google’s rules they will find themselves delisted on search results as that’s how Google are dealing with some non-ethical SEO practices these days. Plus, they’re getting better at finding it.

Search on any town or city and DAG are tops. It surely won’t break Google’s rules as they are taking the bung for all this aren’t they?

If it’s in the paid adverts it won’t breach Google’s rules.

I wouldn’t worry too much. If they click on Repair and Protect, many Google users are likely to be put off by the £180 that typically comes up on the “instant quote” facility.

where they are listed is meant to be for local business as google intended , designed to give local trade a chance against the big corporate,s.
as the maps stick out like a sore thumb at the top of page customer will look at them 1st and notice local companies with local address etc. they are purely designed for local trade , something i feel sticks in the throat of big nationals .
it maybe r+p have an local office at this location ?

no thats what we aint there as per google rules re local postcode

It’s not difficult to imagine that sooner or later, all the guys with the big money will dominate most search results and even further cream off the work. These people have more money to invest in SEO than most repairers earn in 10 years.

true andy , but they shouldnt be able to enter into local maps unless they have bricks and mortar office in that postcode ,
im not bothering about their paid adverts ect , im concerned about them trying to appear as a local business.

Hi ally. Trying to appear local is an old issue, people have always done it in yellow Pages and even local paper ads. Your concern is the same as the one I pointed out though, people with the money employing experts to get them to appear in the rankings shouldering out the genuine independent.

They don’t feature on the maps though do they, take a closer look, they ain’t there.

They only appear as a result of whatever search terms you happen to request. Besides Google provide an opt out feature as shown in THIS VIDEO

hi martin they come up with cooker repair edinburgh when i search – but maybe thats because im more local than you ..?
everyone else listed has their address listed apart from their entry.. wonder why ..
the opt out thing is really only if you dont want to see that company in future searches , which isnt what i want to do
