My washing machine – Zanussi Jetstream 1003 – has stopped working.
The problems are:
1. Until a couple of months ago, the delay between switching on and the power indicator lighting up and m/c starting was 4/5 seconds. Now it’s one or two minutes. Not really a problem, but is something about to fail?2. The drum stopped turning yesterday. When it tries to wash or spin there is no movement, but it makes a rattling noise. Water flows in and drains out ok. When the machine is empty, I can easily turn the drum by hand without any noise.
Apart from perished hose connections eight years ago, the machine has given no trouble.
However, in view of its age (20 years old next spring), is it worthwile even paying a callout charge for someone to come and look at it?

Is there any movement of the drum up & down? If there was any movement in it, its possible the belt came off. Worse case scenario it could be motor or bearing failure, both quite expensive to repair. Delay in switching on could be a failing door locking device, that would’nt be too expensive to repair.
