    Chaps

Bought this new in either 07 or 08 and it’s been great.

A couple of days ago, when on the spin cycle, the noise sounded different to normal. It;s almost as if the motor is hoarse or gravelly – certainly not smooth as it was before. When the machine is empty, and you turn the drum by hand, it sounds noisier than it used to. Otherwise it is working fine.

I took the back off and removed the belt. When the drum is turned manually it sounds fine (certainly no major noise). when the motor spindle is turned it sounds a bit rough, but again, as I have never spun these when the machine was working fine, I’m not sure if this is normal or not.

The machine is used every day and quite often 3 times a day having three young kids. So it’s given us its monies worth to date and is still working.

To add, if I had to guess, I would say the spin speed seems slower than it did. It’s a 1600rpm model but because of the noise, it’s hard to judge but certainly seems to not sounds the frenzied action it used to demonstrate when working fine.

Hard to predict I know but wondered if you had any thoughts? Product number is 914522629 00.

    Thanks

    Andy

Ok, after further research I’m wondering if the bearings have gone or are on their way out. Spinning the drum by hand when empty (reaching inside and turning), it sounds rough and almost feels as if it’s on a slightly bumpy surface, if that makes sense. And if it the consensus is bearings, what part do I need?

The Zanussi website lists (when selecting bearings and inputting my product code)
    – a washing machine ball bearing at £13
    – a washing machine front drum bearing at £23
    – assembly, bearing spider, bush at £64
    – bolt, bearing spider at £7

I will pay a local repair man to do this but as this is a UK machine and we’re in Australia, he cannot find the part numbers as the model was not sold here…

Defo sounds like the bearings but if your going to do it properley you need the tub rear complete (with the bearings already in it),tub seal, drum spider as in my exsperience just knocking a set of bearings in never seems to last. Not sure on the equivolent model over there but its likely to have been badged as just as an electrolux.I would try contacting electrolux themselves and see if they can cross match it.

Thanks for that. Local market are not helpful – it;s not listed so we cannot help. Thus I would rather order the parts from there and know that i have the right ones…

The bearings and seal fitted to your machine are not unique to UK machines. Those Zanussi’s sold in Oz have the same bearing kits fitted. One way around the problem is to remove the faulty bearings and seals then take them along to a supplier who can match them up from stock no doubt. If you look carefully each have a ID number stamped on them for even easier recognition. 🙂
