    Hi,

I have a couple of whirlpool/ikea ovens stacked on top of each other. One of the segments on the lower oven display failed, so I called ikea, and they sorted my local engineer to replace, under their 5 year parts and labour warranty.
It took three visits with different displays for him to finally say, whirlpool had updated the boards for this oven, so the display was now different.
The new fitted display was a bright white intense colour, whereas the display above was much more muted, almost bronze in colour.
Having spent a considerable sum of money, and being only two years old, i was less than happy with the look- the ovens were bought as matching items.
Ikea referred me directly to whirlpool- they can only fit the parts supplied- fair enough.
Whirlpool say basically tough, they don’t guarantee colour match problems such as mine, and no they wouldn’t consider updating the top oven display to match the repair, even if it could be done.
I called back into whirlpool and spoke to spares.
I quoted my service tag, and they said the board had not been updated, and original spec parts were still available to order.
Can anyone check these numbers for me, before i go back to ikea- knowledge is power after all..

    PCB 4105

Part no quoted by whirlpool as correct 481010383935

Whirlpools response was disappointing to say the least- imagine you had 2 red displays, and they came along and fitted a green display- how could that be acceptable, but that seems to be what they are saying.

Look forward to your thoughts on this,

    John

    Re: Whirlpool oven digital display

    Hi John,

All we’d see is the part number, we wouldn’t normally get much information beyond that usually and, even if it were modified in some way, you’d ordinarily only get that information when the part landed.

Sadly, the reality is that component suppliers change for any number of reasons, the original one could have gone bust, the display originally used may be out of production and the best that they can do is make a suitable replacement available. In some cases a replacement might not even be viable and the spare part will become no longer available.

It is also true that, legally, neither the retailer nor the manufacturer has an obligation to ensure that the replacement spare part is exactly the same as the original. The reasons being pretty much as above.

By supplying a replacement spare part that is functionally the same will fulfil both the retailer and manufacturer’s obligation.

I know that’s likely not what you wanted to hear and I am sorry to pour cold water on it but, it is likely better to be informed before going down a path that you are unlikely to get what you are after.

    K.
