ParticipantHi,
My Ariston oven (model no. FB 21 A2 IX) does work quite right, when I turn it on and set the temperature an orange light comes on and oven starts to heat. But the temperature isn’t regulated, it just continues to get hotter and hotter and the orange light doesn’t ever go out.
I have tried changing the cut-out thermostat:

That didn’t solve the problem though. The only other component/part that I can see which might fix the problem is the following:

The oven has always suffered this issue, it came as part of a new fitted kitchen and I think when the installer tested it the oven wasn’t switched off and something burnt out.
What is this part and is it likely to be the cause?
Thank you in advance,
Rob.

I think you ought to let someone else have a look at it if you think that small motor will cause this problem. 😉
That looks like the small motor that is used to turn the rotary spit.
The oven thermostat would be the obvious suspect. The cut out stat you changed is only a safety device, it does not control the basic oven temperatures.

I think you’re right, that is the rotary for the spit.
What does the thermostat look like and should it be accessible at the back of the oven?
Thanks,
Rob.

The oven control switch is the thermostat.
I have to be honest and do hope you don’t take offence but you are asking the sort of questions that make me think that you really should not be attempting to repair this appliance.

No offence taken, I know how to remove an electrical component but will not pretend to know a lot about ovens other than the absolute basics.
Of course I understand that the temperature knob control the thermostat but are you saying the knob itself is the thermostat?
Thanks,
Rob.

No, the knob is the knob, it is attached to the thermostat.

D’oh ok :0)
So I can pull the knob off and access the thermostat.
Thanks,

Ok I figued it out:
Pop off the buttons from the front of the oven and remove two screws at the top of the oven which hold the metal plate on, pulling the panel forward (but still attached at the bottom) I can see the thermostat.
Swing the oven around, remove the back panel and I can see that a wire runs from the thermostat through a hole into the oven where the probe (?) is clipped.
Simple job t replace this, hopefully it will fix the problem.
Thanks for the gentle guidance, glad I figured it.

That is not a wire, it is a hollow, capillary tube, do not kink or cut a new one under any circumstances.
