The dishwasher works through all its cycles, draining and filling as it should. However, the water is not heating at all and if you open the door when it is working, water is only dribbling out of the bottom spray arm when previosly it would have sprayed out of both the lower and upper arms at high pressure. The main pump moter spins freely and turns on and off at the appropriate times of the cycle.
Is this simply a case of the heater element failing or is there something else going on? What is the normal resistance of the heating element? How easy is it to replace the heating element/unit.
The machine has been working perfectly – then next wash symptoms as above.
I’ve checked all hoses, filters etc.

If the circulation pressure is low it won’t heat as the heater is activated by a pressure switch.
There’s another thread here recently about Bosch dishwashers with poor water circulation.

Thanks for the reply – I assume the thread referred to is the one concerning the SGS5312 – poor washer pressure. How similar is this model? I’ve tried most of these remedies but to no avail. Another thread mentioned the pump motor being affected by a poorly charging capacitor, I’m able to test such things but what are the values I’m looking for?
How do I test to see if what is suggested is actually happening?

The fault is definitely caused by a lack of water flow/pressure rather than a heater fault as a rule. The heater is only likely to fail if you persist in using the machine in a hard water area without salt 🙁
Whatever or wherever the fault is requires a strip down, beyond the usual ‘DIY Tips & Fixes’ I’m afraid. What is the FD number of your machine I wonder?

The FD number is 7703 – does this make a difference?
I there anything I can do beyond the tips given in the earlier mentioned thread? Its unlikely I’m going to find someone before Christmes to come and sort it for me.

It tells me that it is almost 7 years old, so way past its best 🙁
Just try one more thing for me, pull the machine forward then tip it backwards 45 degrees to see if any water leaks out from the floor tray ❓ Have a towel handy in case it does leak. 😉

The floor tray is bone dry – nothing to leak out of it – or does it leak from some other area?

interesting this…..
I had a similar fault of poor water spray pressure and once stripped down the culprit was sweetcorn. Loads of em packed in the impellor blades, so it made all the right noises but didn’t move any water.Just a thought.

This is a 45cm model, we had one this week with a broken impellor giving a very similar fault system. Not a job for the faint hearted believe me, get some proffessional help.

I’m cursed, my SPS5462GB will not work and I have a mountain of x-mas pots and pans to get through. It’s not filling up with water. I’ve checked the pipes and they’re clear.Help!!

Hi Karen.
If you have a no fill problem and you’ve done all the usual checks, it’s most likely you will need an engineer to correctly diagnose and rectify for you.
If you pop up your postcode, someone here should be able to help with a service visit, although it may not be until the new year now.
It’s a bummer when appliances fail at this time of year 🙁

Not much going to happen ’til New Year I’m afraid. Most non filling problems with these machines are caused by internal sludging of food detritus. Valve failure is also a slight possibility.
These are regrettably not solvable without professional help, so either look in the Directories section for a UKW member in your area, or pop up your postcode and someone will pick up on it.
