I have a Maytag zigzag GZ2626GEKB American style fridge freezer.

Last week I noticed freezer food was soft, upon further investigation I found the overload relay attach to the compressor had burnt out. There was actually a hole in the bottom of it.

I ordered another, although I did wonder wether there was a problem with the compressor which caused the initial overload damage.

New overload fitted and it worked great for 5 days, but then the freezer defrosted!

When powering down the freezer & then switching back on again the fan runs for 1 second then cuts out, I presume this is the overload stopping the fan running?

If I need a new compressor what is the likely fitted cost?

I’m tempted to buy new, as I’m sick of the ruined food scenario & inconvenience.

    Any advice welcome

If it is the compressor figure on somewhere between £250-400 to replace it and, it cannot be done DIY.

I have ordered a replacement, a Samsung RSG5UCRS with free 5 year warranty. I hope this proves more reliable than the vastly more expensive Maytag it will be replacing.

In that case, is it worth advertising for spares or repair?

Or are the giants difficult to sell on?
