    I have got the main tub out of a Zanussi fjdr1666w, and need to remove the pulley from the rear of it. I have found it is secured with a hex / allen screw and it will not budge with any allen key.

    I was told it might be glued as well. 👿 What would be the best way to tackle this. I am thinking a 6mm hex socket to give me some leverage? Is that strong enough to take the strain or is there anything else I can use?

    I have heard of some people hitting the back of it with a hammer or heating it up to give it more chance of untightening, but I am not sure these are the best way to go.

    They are held in place by LockThread or similar. A hex on a socket driver is normally the best to shift them, once you crack the LockThread it should come off o.k.

    Thanks. I got it apart and was surprised to see that the shaft looks in good condition. However, I think the rear bearing is stuck onto the shaft, and I’m not sure what will get it off.

    I’m reluctant to lever it as the spyder could get damaged, and pliers aren’t shifting it either. Any ideas what I can try?? It would be unfortunate to get this far and not be able to finish the job, even if it doesn’t look in great condition. If I could get a couple of years out of this machine it would be worth doing at this point.

    Thats not a bearing but the brass coller of the shaft which dosen’t look in great condition . You might get away with it but I’d be thinking of replacing the crosspiece .

    Thanks, I was sure it was a bearing – but I was wrong. I’m still considering buying another crosspiece as the replacement is expensive for this model. Is a wire brush the best thing to clean all that build up on the back of the cross piece and drum, or is there some kind of limescale removal type liquid I should get to do it?

    Its important that there is no score marks or scratches on the brass coller else this will cause water ingress into the new bearings

    Great, so I have possibly screwed the job up without knowing it. Oh well, I am an amateur I suppose. It has two tiny score marks on the upper edge of the brass bit. I might just spend a tenner for the bearing kit and see what happens. I guess I enjoyed taking it apart, and I feel like completing it. The spider is £100 though.

    You have stripped the machine why not just replace the bearings. If they fail quickly you can consider replacing the shaft and bearings next time or scrap it. Only gonna cost a tenner and some time. Make sure to glue the seal into the tub and grease the sealing lip. Also replace the tub seal between two half a or silicon works well to ensure a good seal
