ParticipantHi all, hope you can help with my problem.
I have read similar topics about peoples AEG competence ovens cutting out after about 20 mins of operation, but mine is slightly different.
Problem – After 20 mins of operation the oven of my Competence B1180-1 stops heating, however there is still power to the clock display. I can also hear the thermostat clicking as I turn past the current temperature. As noted for other similar posts, the cooling fan on top of the oven doesn’t come on at any point. However, the oven starts to buzz somewhere around the top of the oven.
Now for the different part of my problem, I have replaced the thermal cut out valve (part no. 8996619267611 ZN limiter Oven cooling fan control) aqs suggested in the other posts, but this has not solved the problem.
Are there any other parts on this circuit that I need to think about changing out?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Dave

If your sure that the cooling fan is operating which it should after a couple of minutes on this one then I would suspect a dodgy contact in the selector switch as i’ve seen these fail before on this model.

Hi all,
I have solved this problem, it was mechanical not electrical. I opened the oven up and checked all the electrical parts, they all looked fine, so as a last resort I started messing with the fan, which was really greasy.
A good stiff turn of the fan and it finally moved and I heard some crud drop through into the oven. Gave it a bit of a clean and a few more spins, put the oven cover back on and it worked fine.
Cheers
Dave

Hi guys,
It’s my first time on this forum, and I’m a bit of a DIY newbie (but an enthusiastic one nonetheless) so pardon me if this question comes across as silly…
But where is this ZN limiter located and how can I access it? I’ve got the same problem with my AEG oven switching off after reaching a certain temperature and only coming on after it’s cooled down, so I’d like to replace my ZN limiter myself.
Do I have to remove the knobs, take out the two screws below the front cover, and remove the front cover?
Or is it at the back of the oven – in which case, do I just pull it the whole thing out? It’s really heavy!

You only have to pull out the appliance half way and you can remove the top access panel and the limiter is wrapped into the wiring to the front selector switch .It has four wires to it two goto the switch one to the timer and one to the cooling fan. -
