I called to repair this tumble dryer today no heat the left hand stat was open circuit which i took to be the safety over heat stat. So i rang qualtex to order a new stat kit they said i could have genuine or their own pattern part so i bought the pattern set, but when i went to fit them they wern’t marked with a spot of white paint on the back of the one stat, So i thought the one with 150 on it would be the safety stat and the other with 105 on it would be the cycling stat.Has anybody else come across this problem .

On Indesit/HP white dot normally indercates on shot stat and yellow dot is cycling.

you are right that the higher temp mark is the safety stat

Re: Hotpoint TCD980 Tumble Dryer stats

I have had one of these TOC 42’s from Q’tex and I am sure these temperatures are very different to original spec. Everywhere I look on the net I find the figures 120 / 140 but the kit I have is marked on the stats 105 / 150. By my interpretation that’s 10 degrees too hot for the toc and 15 too cool for the cycling.
Cycling stat doesn’t matter too much, it’ll just take a bit longer to dry I should think but +10 on the safety seems a tad high to me. They should be able to source closer to spec stats than that. They’ve got buying power and other suppliers seem to manage to get it right.
Worse still, when I kindly emailed them to gently point this out to them in a helpful way, they go on the defensive and say the only thing wrong with their stats is the wrong info on the packet:

“The correct thermostats are in the package but unfortunately the information on the outside of the package is incorrect.

It should read White Spot – One Shot Stat
    Yellow spot – Cycling Stat”
(There’s no info of the kind on the packet I have, just a short fit list of models. And anyway, there’s no yellow spot on these pattern parts.)
That’s after informing me in the first email that:

I have checked and the TOC42 are correct, the white spot is equivalent
to the cycling stat. We have sold hundreds of these from the last batch
that came in with no problems.

The person writing these emails then, obviously doesn’t have a clue. I won’t make public the name; not his / her fault that he / she has not been adequately trained.
Oh well, I guess they can afford to lose a small customer like me. But if anyone else is using their kits, I’d say be careful.
    Mike.

Always fit gen stats if at all possible. Only last week I had to fit the Qualtex version of the 1701583 kit for early condenser dryers. It had been sent to me even though I ordered the gen one ( not from Qualtex directly mind ).

It lasted ten days and then the cycling stat failed. 🙁

Martin, this was the cycling stat from Qualtex that has failed in less than two weeks, not the TOC. Anyway, I thought it was TOC26. 😉
