ParticipantI’ve had my Indesit Evolution WE14 washer around a year and been delighted with it when suddenly today it’s gone berserk.
Turned it on as usual, set program and then after a few minutes noticed it was reading an error code of F-08. It occasionally comes up with -H20 when I’ve forgotten to turn the water back on (leaks under sink), so I tried turning it off at the plug to reset it, which I have to do to get rid of that error code. I looked up the error code F-08 on the internet and could find no trace of anyone having that error code before so thought it was just a glitch.
The machine started filling with water as normal and then about 10 mins later I noticed the display now read an error code of F-01. On reset, the machine seems to fill/empty normally, but then the F-01 comes back. The drum doesn’t seem to turn at all now. I’ve found the meaning of the F-01 error on this forum, but it seems odd that it showed F-08 just before.
Any advice on getting the machine to work again would be greatly appreciated as money is tight at the moment. It won’t spin so I’ve a full load of dripping wet washing sitting in my kitchen now. With 3 kids, this is going to be fun…
If there are any local repairmen (Newcastle upon Tyne) please let me know as I’ve a feeling the guarantee runs out this week or next. I’ve been told how helpful Merloni usually are so have little confidence they’ll sort it out quickly. 🙁
Many thanks.

Juliet,
I strongly advise you to contact Indesit and get them to inspect and repair your machine under the guarantee. It is likely in this case that the main Control Module Board is at fault which would otherwise be a costly repair 🙁

Oops, my machine’s a WE16, not a WE14. No doubt much the same though.
Thanks for your speedy response. Thought I’d have another try this morning and after switching on was presented with a loud noise from within the machine, then ‘AUTO’ showing on the LCD display. That stayed on until switched off but is now again showing ‘F-01’.
As I couldn’t find my proof of purchase for the guarantee I didn’t think I’d get much joy from ringing Indesit, but after ringing today they’ve said they’ll send an engineer out on 4th January. No mention yet of being charged, but I’m a bit worried that they’ll bill me without my having proof of purchase… My machine was only put together in October 2002 (purchased Jan 2003), so hopefully it’ll be sorted out okay without. Fingers crossed…

Julie,
All machines carry a ‘Date code’ to show when they were manufactured. That in itself will be proof enough, although I doubt they will querie that with you when they call. They will not insist on payment from you anyway at the time of their visit to hopefully resolve the problem.
Any problems in that regard? and let us know. Happy washdays 🙂

ParticipantMartin,
It’s the text vernacular don’t you know – “t8” = Tate. All down to these new fangled portable telephones the youngsters have these days. They’ll have ones for taking Dagguerrotypes next…..Penguin45.

Martin – Just a bit worried as the date on (in) the machine is October 2003, so if they just go by that it would be considered out of guarantee. Will see what the engineer has to say – hopefully it will be an easy repair so they won’t quibble. If it turns out to be a very expensive repair however, they may use the couple of months discrepancy between manufacture and when I purchased it to try to get me to cough up.
I actually bought it this week last year as it was my birthday present to myself, but the receipt still hasn’t turned up to prove it. Not had any dealings with repairs on any Indesit machines, so don’t want to count my chickens too much at this stage.
Penguin45 – Yep, t8 is short for Tait (not Tate!!). I’ve been using that user name for about 6 years now and this is the first time anyone’s realised without my having to explain it. 😉 I’ll forgive you for the misspell as a. I’m used to it now after all these years, and b. the message seems to imply that I’m young. 😀 I’m 42 years young on Thursday, so wish me a Happy Birthday. 😉 I’m just trying to work out the hidden meaning behind the name Penguin45 (Is that how many of the biccies you’ve been known to eat at one session perhaps?) 😉

ParticipantHa! Well, Martin’s how shall we say… older than most of us on UKW, so we have to explain some of this new stuff to him.
Penguin45? Well, it’s an old joke about the way I walk (How many people do you know who limp on BOTH legs?) and the old birthday – May the Fourth be with you.
As far as your problem is concerned, 2/3 months lag from manufacture to delivery is entirely reasonable. The main thing is that you DID send in the guarantee info? If so, you’re on the system and it won’t matter.
Happy Birthday and good luck.

Penguin45.I don’t think I’ve ever remembered yet to send in any guarantee cards with new items so far in life, so won’t have that as back up unfortunately – hence my worry! I do complete them, but it’s the posting of them that always gets forgotten – usually find them stuck in a drawer a couple of years later… 😳
Engineer turned up at 8.00am on the dot this morning and after 15 minutes or so of fiddling around, said he had no idea what half of the error codes it was bringing up meant… He’s replacing the main control board, plus some other sensor, in the hope of sorting it so I’ve yet another week with no washing machine. 😥 No mention of any bill yet so hopefully it’s okay.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. No celebrations planned, but have Granada TV coming to interview my daughter and I (she may be doing a documentary with them), so at least it will be different! 😉
