Last Friday my brand new AEG washing machine was delivered. On opening the drum to remove the instruction booklet I found the drum inside was wet, and indeed the booklet inside a plastic bag was also damp. Concerned that there may be a fault I telephoned AEG who said this was not right and told me to contact Curry’s the supplier. I telephoned Curry’s who said that this was perfectly normal as washing machines are tested prior to sale. With such contradictory comments I am hoping for some independent, but informed information.
    Thanking you in anticipation.

Yes the vast majority of manufacturers water test their machines prior to despatch. The only known exception (IIRC?) are Bosch/ Siemens by virtue of the fact that in their user instructions they suggest pouring 1 litre of water into the soap dispenser prior to first use.

    That’s not actually correct Martin.

Most are “batch tested” which means that a machine is plucked at random and checked, the vast bulk are not actually tested as such.

Interesting as most of the new machines I have installed have a sticker on the front of the machine which says something like

“this machine has been tested before and so may have some water residue inside, this is nothing to worry about”
