ParticipantOk, been working on one of these smeggy things and after finally sucessfully removing all bra wires, and replacing the torn door seal, and replacing the pump (£110 on parts alone) thought we’d done a good job.
Anyways, get a call day later and on the 5th load it had started smoking. Pop my head round and nothing looked untoward, but the inner flange of the seal – the bit that tucks inside of the outer drum has been cut/rubbed away by the drum lip
anyone know if this is a fairly common on these because im loathe to replace the seal again without working out why its done it, needless to say bearing assembly seems as tight and as smooth as the day it was built, however there seems to be a bit of flex in the front cover, so not sure where to go now, as concious bill is racking up. Really looking for anyone to give me a bit of confidence that putting new struts in will make a difference, and that its not a warped spider/innder drum 🙂

New struts would never cure a inner door seal lip fault. It looks like its the drum support thats gone, not rare on this range. Sorry.

that was my immediate thoughts, but theres no flex or play on the drum that i could feel to imply spider failure, but i guess you only hneed a hairline fracture in one arm? Only reason i thought the struts were maybe the culprits, if they were not damping properly and therefore the spider/drum was flexing instead. sod of a job to extract-refit this thing, but basically only way to be sure is to strip it to the core and inspect the spider?

I would just load it up with a mass of wet towels & put it on the full spin. The noise will be the give away.

fair point, have only ran it with the “half load” that was left over from the load that smoked (the rest of the load was in the t/d at the time)
