I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WF541 which has worked perfectly for as long as I’ve had it. However, it has recently developed a fault on temperature control. It doesn’t matter which temperature setting I now select, it always washes everything, on any chosen wash cycle, at the highest possible temperature setting (ie everything washed at 95 degrees!!). Would this be caused by a faulty thermistor or would the temperature control switch be at fault?

Its more likely to be the selector switch than the thermistor TBH.
The selector switch is part of the console pcb which is around £100.00
The thermistor does not appear to be available on its own, it comes with a new heater which is approx £24.Re: Hotpoint Aquarius WF541 Temperature Control
Thanks IADOM. Most helpful. Is the control switch on the Control PCB replaceable or would I need to purchase the whole PCB?

It is a complete unit. Plug and pray, no programming needed.

Unlikely to be selector if no matter the program it’s washing at 95, the temperature control can only reduce the temp of a given program it can not increase it, so if you select 40 cotton wash and its still washes at 95 then its more likely module. However if you are selecting the 95 cotton and can’t reduce it then id agree its the top board.

Thanks very much for this advise. Just 1 question about your reply. When you refer to the “Module”, are you referring to the main PCB at the back of the machine? It sounds like an expense I could well do without on the run up to xmas 🙁

The console or facia module is at the top and contains the rotary switches, cost around £100.
The main module is in the base, cost over £100 but has to be programmed, either by an Indesit Company engineer or by purchasing a ‘one use only’ smart card (approx £20) and a card reader (about £100). 😥
One of many reasons why lots of people insert the letter H between the S & I in Indesit. :rolls:

has no one considered the knob might be broken?
i mean, if the thermistor was faulty either way, there would be a fault code, amd if the relay was stuck on, same thing… but then , this is hotpoint isnt it

Not seen the knobs on the small rotary switches breaking on these, but as you say Rob it is a Hotpoint (Indesit) so anything is possible. However as madangler1 has pointed out the temp switch cannot increase temps, only decrease them so if the knob was stuck in the 95 degree position and the machine was set to a 40 degree wash it should still only heat to 40.

I did have one of these the other day that was stuck on one program which was a 60 deg..
Are you able to select other programmes ie. spin or drain. ??

I’ve checked the control knob and it appears to be fine. Turns and clicks as normal. Even removed the switch itself from the board to check it and it appears fine (no broken contacts). Cleaned all the contacts on the pcb in case there wsh a dirty connection and put the machine through a cycle again to see if it made a difference. Now it is doing all sorts of weird and wonderful things!!!! I put it on a drain cycle and it filled with water and did a complete wash cycle. Tried to end the cycle by pressing and holding the cancel button. All lights lit and then stopped …. momenterily before continuing on it’s wash cycle. Even turned it off using the on/off switch and about 4 seconds later..the machine turned itself back on and continued with the wash cycle. It’s now as though it has a mind of it’s own and it does it’s own thing!!!!!!
