My Candy AQW130(Aquaviva1300) Washer Dryer has been making a screeching noise like rubber slipping on a shiny floor but louder. Its 2yrs5month old and is only used as a washer except for the occasional handfull of socks because the dryer trips when its on high. I did tell the repair guy when he was called for the trip reset but he said it happens and at the time it was intermittent. It started happening only when the machine was going into a high spin but now it happens when its agitating too. The last wash i done in it it screeched whilst on the 1st rinse then the drum didn’t do anything at all but the dial clicked and turned and the machine filled and emptied. It also done it whilst i had it on drain, screeched attempted to rotate and drained. I’ve checked the waste for a blockage and the drain on the bottom of the machine and also had a look in the back, nothing obvious except a black hose to the right hand side that was loose. That came from the detergent drawer and joined the waste i noticed that it had a sticky pad attached to it and figured it went on the side of the machine where it was also a bit sticky, that explained the occasional knocking noise that i’ve heard. The motor looked clean but there was a bit of blackning. Is it the brushes that are worn? Also the larger wheel that the belt is on looked like in places on the spars that there had been metal contact, there where some fine dusty metal filings still on the spars and some on the base of the machine. No signs of any rubbing on the inside of the back plate, And there is absoulutly no foreign objects in the back. A couple of weeks before it packed in whilst on a wash either a tissue was in a pocket or the machine back flowed a load of oosey gunk of course it was on a darks load and everything was covered in it! I do check the drain on the bottom every 6 or so months but its usually clean only on 2 occasions have i found an object in there a 1p coin that wasn’t damaged and a kind of plastic type paper clip also undamaged. I really cant afford a repair guy so if it is fixable i need to do it myself, a workmate has changed the brushes on a washer before he can help me out but it was a different make and only a washer. I knew getting a washer dryer was going to be a risk when i got it but i dont have space for a dryer. Is it for the skip or can it be sorted? Thanks

Screeching noises as you have described point to bearing failure. Drum bearings are the most likely culprits, especially as you pointed out metal filings on the pulley spokes.

It is a tank out job on these machines, even us professional don’t like it! Also bear in mind that until dismantled you cannot fully ascertain how much damage has been done.

Time for help or replacement I’m afraid.

Re: this machine, my 12month service guarantee has run out by one month, I have called the repair man out 5 times so far and all he does is a two second job. The dryer cuts out and he resets it, no other problems exist. Could anyone tell me where to locate the trip as I do not know what I am looking for. Thank you.

The thermostats tripping is because of an airflow problem, possibly a blockage in the condensor.

if you are unsure look in repairs@ for an engineer

Oh ok, I thought maybe someone would tell me where it is so I can press it myself. It happens alot and seemingly to everyone who has this particular machine. Thanks anyway.

If you’re going to have a look please pull the plug 1st :zap:

The stat has a red (normally) button on it that’s just waiting to be pressed firmly. Take the lid off, you can’t miss it.

If it keeps happening, there may well be an underlying problem as Clyde suggests, it can also be caused by persistent opening of the door during the drying cycle, the residual heat builds up and and the stat will cut out, wait for the cooling down period before opening the door 😉

    Re: Candy AQW130(Aquaviva1300) Washer Dryer

Hi there, Thank you for telling me I’m looking for a red button, the lid is off and I can’t see any buttons at all – we are going away tomorrow and I am desperate to get it working as I had washed before I realised it had tripped out. The engineer that has called in the past says they are lousy machines and always trip, that’s all well and good if I can learn to untrip it, but I am buttonless and it’s odd. Thank you again for your help, fab website for us desperados. 😳

Er! I think the “Red Button” is actually a kind of beige colour? and is the reset tab on the Thermal Cut-out. They usually trip for up to 3 reasons. 1) The user turns the machine off before the dry cycle completes 🙁 2) The condenser ducting gets blocked with fluff near the bottom hose 🙁 and/or finally 3) The blower fan seizes up. Any one or several combinations will have the same end result in that little button tripping 😥

:plug: PULL THE MAINS PLUG FIRST or :zap:

The button itself is very small and is on the top of the thermostat, when you push it you will here it click

Make sure the washer is unplugged :plug:

Thank you all……I can see two longish brownish button things on top of the machine, I guess I was looking for a red button like a doorbell type thing. I shall now attempt to put things right and am grateful to you all for your input. 🙂
