I came home yesterday to find my downstairs sockets tripped on the trip switch box.
I have found that the problem is the washing machine, it looks like it tripped the switch mid cycle as there is water in the drum.
As soon as I plug it back in it trips the switch again.

I think it looks like a washing machine engineer job to me, but can anyone give me some suggestions as to the cause?

Yes, your guess was right. Heater has gone.
Replacement is about £55 plus fitting costs, so around £85.

This sounds like a good idea, as im not ready to chuck out my £400 washing machine just yet.

Do you think that it is worth fixing? The washer/dryer is five and a half years old now, what is the chances of something else breaking down next month? Are there any other more expensive parts that you go?

My crystal ball says “odds 25/1 in your favour”.

The motor and the drain pump work hardest with the latter the most likely to fail at some point in the near future. The former, usually just a pair of new brushes will get that going again should it fail at any stage in the future. Overall, your machine is a worth keeping going a while longer but as to how long I’m afraid my crystal ball clouds over with no clear view….sorry.:D

Thank you for your response …

    … and your humor.

    New heater is being ordered.
