ParticipantI bought a Bosch SGS4012BG/07 from a classified ad at the weekend. The machine is about 4 years old but had never been unwrapped.
I unpacked it, plugged and plumbed it in and it doesn’t work. No matter which program I put the machine on, including prewash, it seems to stick in a pumping out state. The program dial moves just a tiny bit and then stops and no water is being sprayed from the arms inside. It also appears that the machine is taking water in and just pumping it out again. There is also a burning smell coming from the machine possibly near the power button.
I hope someone is able to help.
Regards

John,
Most likely the water inlet system is blocked or stuck open which simply needs an expert in to clear it for you. Check for an engineer in your area via our “Directories” listing 😉

Thanks for your prompt reply.
If the water inlet was blocked then would the dishwasher still pump out water even though the dishwasher has never ever washed dishes? I did run the drainange pipe into the sink to check if water was coming out and it was.
How could the inlet become blocked if the dishwasher has never been used?
Why would this cause a burning smell?Regards

The water inlet system could well be stuck through lack of use, long storage periods etc. You could try pouring a bowl full of hot water into the tub to try releasing it that way. Let it stand a while, then switch on.
The burning smell is the worry though and the reason I advise seeking expert help 🙂

When you say tub do you mean the bottom of the dishwasher?

John,
Fill a washing up bowl with hot water open the dishwasher door and pour it in the tub!

Hi John
I’ve had two cases like this when machines have not been used for a lengthy period.
In the first, the pressure diaphragm at the side had stuck (the cure was manually exercising it), the second was rodent damage (nibbled the flood protector float in the base, the chewed bits getting lodged underneath it)Hope that helps?

Thanks for your reply.
How do I get to the pressure diaphragm?

sounds like the flood protection is in operation, ie the float in the base is activated for wat ever reason.

There you go John, my friend Clive being more to the point I guess. 🙂 In my experience you can often free this off with the ‘hot water in the bowl technique’. Beyond that we cannot advise other than calling in an expert. Not a problem and easy to fix I’m sure

Anytime john….hope that sorts it for you 🙂
P.S. The pressure diaphragm is not accessible without the lid and side coming off first so maybe time for an engineer?

Sounds to me that the wash pump has stuck through lack of use, (a common fault with these) smell would be from stalled motor, machine would fill and empty and do nothing else.
Check directories over to the left of this page for an engineer in your post code areaRegards Sparkey
