Right you bunch of boring slackers! 😛

Damn it’s been quiet in here and you’re all usually ragging my ass something severe, bar Kev who does that for a hobby I think. :rotfl:

Anyways, we have work to do so enough larking about…

We need an in warranty washer from you to price up a few spares on, this has to be a current model and I need a spread to make this work. Dave has a list at present and he’ll chime in when he is awake I should imagine. Chris is collating the list and we have an “insider” who is going to give us actual costs from the source.

Both Chris and I will work to ensure the best use of this information and make sure that it makes an impact. But be warned, this may take a while. Dealing with government and the media is a royal PITA at the best of times, but hopefully we’ll grab some attention through it.

I have already had extensive discussions with the DTi on this subject and the CC and have contacts in each to move forward.

Essentially we have to prove that the manufacturers are taking the piss with spares pricing! So all I need to know is if you’re game to really upset them?

I am not kidding, they will be well pissed off.

Are we talking about a nice Public, on-going festering sore that EVERYONE’s going to be able to see and isn’t going to go away?

If so, somethings going to happen.

    Let’s get on with it.

    Chris.

Like P said there can be no let up till it really bites home. It’s just a shame that the biggest benifactors will be the insurance company’s, who are to gutless to do the job themselves.

Now what’s he at this time :con: Spares prices this time 😯

I’ve been ramping on about rip-off Merloni prices lately but what’s the plan this time, DTi? really? Manufacturers will always fight their corner and justify their policies to any external auditors, what chance is half a dozen of us moaning about the cost of Modules going to make 😕

    Re: Next Pet Project

Martin, I’ve been talking to the DTi for a year or more about this, these things take time you know.

The insurance companies are as pissed of about it as we are but they’re gagged due to the fact that they all have policies that are sold off the back of the appliance sale and they NEED manufacturer service in many cases to service the product. In other words they’re fucked with nowhere to go and, should they be seen to be upsetting the manufacturer then said manufacturer would pull the rug faster then look at them.

There’s loads more but I CBA to type it.

However the point, that Chris and Del got obviously, is to get the public onside here as well as the media, that’s the pressure to apply not just a few of us banging on and facts are facts. But we have to target it well in order to succeed in this and we also have to realise going into it that this will be a long haul and we’ll lose some battles but we can hurt them, big time.

High spares pricing is not in the consumers interest or ours, nor is it a transparent way of product pricing and placement, we just have to make others see it as we do.

I’m working with 6 washing machines ranging from a Beko to a Miele and pricing the motor, module, pump, door seal and the outer tub/drum.

As these are all current models, a couple will take a little longer.

Chris has the excel file I sent on Monday ?

Oh I get the point alright, I just don’t see what we can achieve here other than a small group shouting… “These motors cost £10 to produce yet they charge us £100 for them!”….so what?

Bearing in mind we are not wielding a big stick here, not the lions roar yet. We’re not even likely to expose some sort of scandal or hidden agenda. “Merloni are ripping us off and killing our trade!” …who gives a shite?

Far better we should concentrate on getting our own house in order first. By getting more than our present 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} share of the repairers on our side. Joe Public really doesn’t have any concerns in this area either, they vote with their feet everytime. It would be far better that more of us wrote more “Product Reviews” , now that does get Joe Public’s interest if thats your aim.

Hands up those here that have bothered to do that simple task?

When manufacturers see a drop in sales and can associate our comments as partly the reason for it, then and only then can we wield that big stick!

I’m pleased you at least were’nt upset at yet another of my negative responses to ideas you throw up (sorry – in :)) . Look at it more as my attempts in injecting a little reality to the situation perhaps. 8)

Get some more reviews in there, tell it like it is (I know many of you won’t slag of a Diplomat or Hygena for obvious reasons 😉 ) Lets give the big boys hell that way. Do a review on a Hoover Dryer? Now there’s a laugh :rotfl: Tell ’em how much a replacement Drum is for one too don’t forget :rotl:

I wouldn’t say Merloni are the worst offenders, there are a number much worse, the likes of Bosch, AEG and Whirlpool to name but a few

As Jason says, Whirlpool for example selling Crosslee spares. Tumble dryer model CL847 the motor costs £237.51, the door frame costs £69.37 and the vent hose is £75.98 incl.

can you imagine quoting for a vent hose on a cash job?
