Zanussi fl1555w bearing oil? When I serviced refridgerators, other appliance engineers suggested that oil stains (not the little dots from the perforations in basket, but splodges) left on clothing would be caused by shot bearings. Imagining this is the only place oil [i]could[i] come from, my question is; am I likely to be right in my diagnosis of faulty bearings for this machine before I strip it down?

Is it recommended to replace water seal (yes I imagine) and what about the bush, is there a brass bush, replaceable? any other particulars for this model. Sorry for being so demanding, just want to have everything in place first.
    Thank you in advance.

There is no ‘oil’ in the bearings, only grease, it’s very rare for this to get onto the clothes. Usually the awful noise that shot bearings make are picked up long before any grease gets back into the drum. Has the machine been making a noise on spin for some time?

TBH on the few occasions that the grease and gunge get back into the drum the machine is almost always BER.

We really the the PNC or product number ( starts with 914 ) to advise you further.

I think you must be right. I’ve never heard any bearing related noises (speaking from a car mechanics POV) but the sucker does clunk and bang alot in spin. I figured that was just imbalance or heavy single items in the basket. Guess not, the shaft must be destroyed then.

Thanks for advice, /me goes to find insurance papers.

If there are oil like stains on clothing it could be caused by the conditioner going in too early, when activated by warm water it woud give an oil like stain to clothing. It should only go in at end of wash during the rinse cycle & be activated by cold water ony.

I’d suggest you open the door, grip the edge of the drum (what you call the “basket” ) and try to wobble it from side to side/ up and down. It should remain centred in the inner ring of the rubber door-seal…..
If it wobbles and / or makes a grating or clonking, most likely the drum has detatched from it’s 3-legged support-spider or the spider has one or more broken legs.

the empty drum should run true, smooth and quiet when revolved by hand.

The “grease” could be something left over from a previous wash, or muck from a breakage as outlined above.

NOT a professional W.G. engineer, so don’t take this as gospel!
