I’d be grateful for any comments (positive or negative) on reliability of the Whirlpool dishwasher wash pumps 480140103011 or 480140103009, the new Askoll type introduced about a year ago to replace the trusty 481236158434.

Having used up my stock of the old motor, I’ve fitted 2 of the new type (to a Diplomat ADP8322, 854500015819, 330641002163), the first failing after 4 weeks and the second after 6 weeks. The first seized after the magnet broke and after a quick test it seems the second has failed in the same way.

Both pumps worked fine after installation. My customer tells me that prior to each failure, the pump suddenly became noisy just before the dishwasher broke down.

According to my supplier AWS (who I find good to do business with), they have sold 26 of these new motors since May and have only had one return (by me).

Is my experience just an unusual run of bad luck, or have others experienced similar early failures? Or could there be something else causing this dishwasher to destroy its wash pumps?

I’ve fitted three of these in the past year and have had one bounce on me.
I’ve had one of the other two go noisy for a while and settle down again (according to the customer who rang to complain and then rang back a few days later to say its gone quiet again). As soon as I saw they had changed the design back to the askoll type pump, I knew there would be problems.
